Back in the Sunshine . . .

I'm having such a great time on this ship!

I've been spending a lot of time in training or sitting at the computer reading months of old emails and computer postings getting updated on all things work related. And of course I've been in my club with Andy, the other director here, and our teens who are super nice and fun. I've gotten them hooked on Skip-Bo - card game which was a bit addiction on the Destiny last spring which then I spread to camp this summer. We're having fun.

And though I'm not on my ship sleep schedule yet so I'm getting tired, I've been going out every evening after work trying to get as much time with friends here while I can. My second night onboard was formal night so I went out the disco where I spent lots of time catching up with Lonnel and Ricardo and Adrian. Then the last 2 nights I've been in the crew bar with old friends or my new department members. And I've met some really fantastic people who I know if I were here longer I would've become great friends with. Wish I had more time here, but I'm just savouring what I've got.

Training has been unfortunately eating up port time, but I'm doing what I can. Yesterday we were in Montego Bay, Jamaica. My training was right smack in the middle of the day so I couldn't really do mcuh of anything. I got off the ship for about half an hour (so I could say I did) but right where the ship docks is just a terminal with a few shops. All the good stuff is in town and I didn't get a chance to get there. But the views of the Jamaican mountains from the ship's deck was pretty lovely!

Today we're in Grand Cayman. And I realized it may very well be my last time in Grand Cayman - I won't be back this contract and who knows where I'll be next year! I went with Katie and Char, two camp girls, to my old favourite hangout, Treasure Island. We took advantage of the wifi and I went on a short walk down on the beach. Then I spent almost the rest of the time in the pool. So good to swim again! All summer at home I only went in a pool once, at the very end of camp when a heatwave hit. The girls commented how I didn't seem to get enough of the water. I've missed it! And I've missed the sparkling bright blue water of the sea too which I kept admiring as we tendered back and forth from the ship. Though I've only been gone from home not yet a week, I treated myself to a bit of Canadiana while I could. Treasure Island's restaurant has poutine on their menu! So it was poutine and a daiquiri at the swim-up pool bar for me! The sun was shining it was warm and gorgeous. And I'm happy to be skipping out on winter yet again! (Sorry to those at home reading about this as it gets increasingly colder there!!)

Only two more days on the Conquest before I'll be off to the Ecstasy . . . Loving it while I'm here!

Skipbo! I taught it to Walt and a few of the teachers here but they're not as addicted as we are. Isn't sunshine fantastic!? Glad you're soaking up the sun. Happy Thanksgiving!
