David Lynch's favorite city... Łódź

We travelled to Łódź because we wanted to see a smaller city in Poland. I also couldn't miss Łódź because it is David Lynch's favorite city, there is an active modern art scene, strong film roots, a Hollywood style walk of fame, old looming textile factories and so much more. I also will say that Łódź has the most helpful tourist office on our trip so far. We loved it!

huge selection of domestic and imported beers from more than 35 countries. heaven for beer lovers. tages had Budvar (czech beer) as recommended by a Polish metal guy with long hair and an ACDC jacket who sat and chatted with us for awhile. i tried the delicious Łódź Porter.

1990-1995 Freedom to go bankrupt. Łódź own troubles start like the collapse of local industry based on exports to Eastern bloc markets that also went bankrupt.

A city within a city. 19th century workers paradise.

Księży Młyn
Built by German factory owner Karol Scheibler. He wanted his workers to be more attached to their workplace (the cotton mill) and to do so he built this special enclave of housing complete with its own stores, fire dept, school, hospital and a park.

Grohman's Barrels
A 19th century entrance gate to Henryk Grohman's weaving mill shaped like spools of thread.

Polish film's hall of famers all went to school here.

Apartment for rent on Łódź
My friend has a lovely self catering apartment in Łódź now, just put 'Slattery's Lodz' in google and it'll come up. It's good value, clean, and in the perfact place for sampling all that Łódź has to offer. I went there last Summer with my two children and we had a really lovely time. Enjoy!
