12-9-09 We decided to go & put the Kayak in Geikie Gorge & go fishing with the fresh water Croc’s. We could only put the kayak in between 11am & 1pm, I was a bit nervous as we had seen so many Croc’s on our cruise but we were assured they are timid & will swim away. We never saw one. We got there a bit early & went on a 20 min walk, it was very hot. We put the kayak in & started going up the Gorge & put our lines in. Den caught this good sized fish & we were so excited, so we kept that one, then Den kept pulling in undersized cat fish ( Silver Cobblers ) & throwing them back. Then I pulled a few in & we kept on moving & fishing around the rocks at the bottom of the cliffs. So we had 1 good eating fish only , but having a good time. We headed back about 12.30pm & gave it one more shot, & we both pulled in a Silver Cobbler at the same time, Den’s had to be thrown back & we kept mine as it was a good size. We pulled out the kayak & I was walking back to the car & I showed a guy the first fish Den had caught & he thought it was a Barramundi, but undersized, they have to be 55cm. He said just put it in your esky & don’t let the ranger see it. We went back to the park & let the girls out, Den hosed the Kayak out & I helped him fillet the fish. We decided to go up to the bar & have a couple of drinks before tea as it was our last night in Fitzroy Crossing. We got back & had a nice feed of fish, the Silver Cobbler, saving the Barra for another night. (Maybe we should have got rid of the evidence ). Had an early night as going to Broome tomorrow. We were awoken in the middle of the night by a strange sound, thought Jessie had fallen out of bed, but no she was still at our feet. Could not work it out so eventually got back to sleep. Den came in the next morning & said someone had run into our guide rope holding the awning down. (we are looking for someone with a big rope burn on their leg)

13-9-09 Off to Broome today 396 km’s , left early, the scenery is a lot flatter & scrubbier now, we called into Willare Roadhouse for morning tea & decided to buy a coffee for a change. We saw this car ( see pic ) amazing it was a 1928 Grande Paige Car (it looked like an old Roll’s Royce) built in Michigan USA, driven by a young couple who had been on the road for 9 years. The sign on the back of the car was “Argentina to Alaska”, they started the trip in Argentina & have been on the road ever since. They have had 4 kids on the trip, one born in OZ, how the 6 of them fitted it was amazing. The wheels were even wooden spoked, he said spare parts were a bugger. We pushed on & landed in Broome at lunch time, found Cable Beach & our Caravan Park , set up & had lunch. Got the TV up & running so Den could watch the V8’s & the footy, he is very happy except just now the race finished & Garth Tander won over Craig Lowndes & the Dragons are not going too well either. Bugger St George lost, oh well. Had left overs for tea & sat outside under the awning & had a drink, then we climbed into bed. We will see what tomorrow brings.
