Finally got a good sleep in. Vera and I headed over to the Waitangi treaty grounds after we made some breakfast. It's about 1.5 km's to walk there. At first you watch a video when you get there about the treaty. Basically, the Maori people were the first people to be in New Zealand and then the english came and tried to take over. The Waitangi treaty is a treaty between the Maori and the english to co-exist in New Zealand. If you are really interested in knowing more about it I suggest googling it because they can explain it better then me haha. There is a house on the grounds that was built by James Busby, an englishman and it was right in front of the house that the treaty was signed.

There is a huge waka (war canoe) that was built for the grounds but it was all covered up since the shelter for it was being repaired. We got to see a video with the canoe in it but that's it. There are also a couple of short trails you can go on. We made the long walk back to the hostel.

Met some new girls in our room and then went to make dinner. After dinner we went and got some ice cream. A university student came in and asked us all to do a survey on hostels and the backpacker buses in NZ for her studies so we filled that out. We went to the bar for another drink and met an interesting lady from Ireland who was telling us all about her travels in South America.

WEnt back to room to pack up my bag as I head off back to Auckland tomorrow. Not really excited for that but it has to be done.

Love the photos! If you're interested in more Maori history/culture stuff, check out the movie Whale Rider, it's a good one!
