Day 7

I started out fairly early, eager to get back to the River Route.

In short order I was in Missouri and had to stop for gas and well a nosh. Not the best of the trip but it worked.

I grabbed a map and tracked out my route for the day. I zipped down highway 61. Canton was my gas and doe-doe stop. I paid homage and tossed two doughnuts in the trash… after they hit the ground. I saved the one that only fell on the table… Coffee was just warm, thanks to Rev Bill, I had my AreoPress earlier!

I headed south to Hannibal, Mark Twain’s boy hood home. There was a touristy park that I looked at but decided not to partake.

The next several hours was spent riding a roller coaster of a road, highway 79, a “scenic route” as well as a continuation or the River Route. What a glorious road. Deep greens with a back drop of a muddy brown river. Most of the time I could pull my bike over and toss a stone into the river. The elevation change was between about 450’ and 1100’

I am not eating this junk all the time!

I passes several barges pushing food up the river to the waiting trucks and rail cars. I can only think that Scott is eating corn from these of days pass. I road into a grain silo complex while they were loading and got chased out so no pictures…

The Oil low indicator flashed on a couple time and I thought it would be wise to whip into St. Louis BMW for a oil change. They were very slack so I got right in.

I went looking for info on BBQ. I met Marklain and she with a group of friend search out the best BBQ in the area each Wednesday. She directed me to Stunpys, some 30 miles behind me. Off I went.

Boy she knows good BBQ. I had Fried Pickles to start then Ribs, pulled pork, green beans, BBQ beans, garlic bread(the weak link) and sweet tea! I was in gastronomical bliss!.

After the meal I felt like putting some miles between the big city and myself, as I have grown accustomed to the small road and towns that blanket the river. So I followed Nicole (my wonderful GPS) south to Cape Girardeau, just because I dig the name, and that I where You would find me tonight.

More adventures tomorrow. Thanks for the comments and tagging along.

Good eating
Those little frosted mini-donuts are a must on the road. The chocolate dipped buggers hold a distant second. Now, deep-fried pickles look interesting. The riding looks excellent, and the trusty steed needed only an oil change? Looks like Mr. Bill is an arsonist and food tosser. ABCD: Accuse, Blame, Criticize, and Deny. It's gotta be Mr. Bill, or is it Sluggo? -The Rev
