How shall the young secure their hearts?

Greetings again from Malawi! It has been such a blessing to have my oldest son Jacob with me on this trip. Since he has graduated from the Andrew Connally School of Preaching, he is really developing his teaching ability.

He and I are both teaching for the Mobil Bible School while we are here (hope to give you another blog later detailing this work). But Jacob has been asked to do other teaching also.

On Saturdays Jacob has been teaching a group of young men and women. Lina Crookshank realized that the youth of the church here really receive no attention or teaching. Many do not attend worship and few of the older Christians seem to see the tragedy of the situation. It is VERY important to teach parents that it is their responsibility to teach and train their children (Deut. 6:4-8; Eph. 6:1-4, etc.). However, concerned missionaries, who are devoted to helping strengthen the church where it is weak, will give some attention to the youth.

Jacob was teaching while brother Machitidwe did the translating. The meetings are being held in a school room. The group was very interested in learning some English songs, so before Jacob’s lesson, I led a couple hymns.

This same Saturday, a teaching effort was conducted back in Tanzania. Julia and Lindsey gave lessons encouraging the unmarried young ladies, to take this time in their lives to serve the Lord is a focused way. And since the time difference is only one hour - our three children were busy teaching about the same time. How thrilling!

When we were traveling in the states to raise support, we asked brethren to support the Jensen mission team. I hope this helps you realize how serious we were about that. We thank God for blessing us with our four wonderful children.

Many of you know that before our children became Christians, I had them take turns joining me on a mission trip, at our own expense. We felt this would be money well spent for valuable early training in allowing them the opportunity to be thrilled with mission efforts. Back when Jacob was only eleven years old, he accompanied me to Ukraine, where I taught in the school of preaching for a number of weeks. I was so proud of him when he “stayed up with” the preacher students in memorizing three verses each day for every class. If my memory serves me, that was Monday through Friday for three weeks straight.

How similarly proud I now am, to have him with me - teaching on his own. Please excuse this blog if you think it too nepotistic. But I pray this young man’s example might serve to encourage other youths and other parents.

In Christ's service,
George Jensen 2009

George, I don't find it too nepotistic at all. We can't forget the effort that our children put forth, they need encouragement also. Take care!

Thank you so much for the work you and your kids are doing! It's so encouraging to know that there are other people (particularly young people) that have the same principles! I love you all!! Hope to see you in December!! :D

teaching the young
George, You and Joy are to be highly commended for the determined effort to teach Julia, Jacob, Luke and Lindsey the Word by your instruction the example of taking them on mission trips. May God bless them to continue to love the Word of Righteousness and teach it. We love and appreciate all 6 of the Jensens. Brotherly, Windell
