A long hike upA long hike upA long hike up

Everytime you went down on the board you had to walk up the dunes again. It was so hard!
We have spent the last 3 days in a small town that is just like Leavenworth, or a small German town. The town is located on the coast of the Atlantic and it takes only 10 minutes to walk from one side to the next.

The ocean waves are huge here. I would never go into the water it is so cold, the weather reminds me of Ocean Shores not at summer time.

Since I have been here we saw the movie Hangover, it was a very fun movie to watch. We all brought drinks in with us and by the end of the movie we all were having a great time. We went out to a local pub and then to a nice Italian meal. I was in bed by 10:30, I am such an old lady here.

The next day I went sand boarding. This is where you lay down on a piece of wood that is about 2.5ft wide and 4ft long, and is like a centimeter thick if that. You lay down on the board and then you sled down sand dunes. It was so much fun. I got sand in every place

that you can imagine, and ate just about as much! My fastest time down the hill was 69 km/hour which is 43 miles/hour. It was so fun!

We then went for a township tour just outside Swakopmund. It was interesting to meet the locals and learn about customs. While walking around the town we had all the little kids following us. They wanted to have their picture taken, carried, swung around, and type of attention was great for them. We met the chief of the town which is an 84 year woman, and the first female chief to be elected. We then went for some dinner of local dishes, which is where I ate more than one caterpillar. I really didn’t think they were that bad. I only ate 3 though, I didn’t go crazy! After dinner, some more kids dance and sang for us. At the end they came up to speak with us. They were just like little people. They would ask our names and what our profession was, it was too cute!

The next day we went quad biking through the sand dunes. I have a new addiction! I really think I need to buy

one for when I get home! After quad biking we went and had the best Chinese dinner that I have ever eaten in my life. For a moment I really forgot that I was in Africa. I was sitting in a Chinese restaurant in a very modern German town on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Go figure.
