Bangkok has defiantly been a different experience than the rest of out trip. Sightseeing was a refreshing change from relaxing on the islands. We were in Bangkok longer than intended because the overnight train to Chaing Mai was sold out. We stayed on the infamous Kohsan Road which is a backpackers haven filled with foreigners in bars and restaurants. It is some what overwhelming with all the shops and tuk tuk drivers, suit shops and massage ladies trying to sell their goods. The tuk tuk drivers here always tell you that wherever you want to go is closed or it is a holiday or that you can't wear sandals, they do this so they can take you on a escapade around town which is exactly what happened to us.The first day that we were in Bankok a tuk tuk driver approached us with a cheap tour around the city, unfortunately what he neglected to tell us is that he also was going to take us to an expensive tailor shop along with as many overpriced shopping stores as he could. We wasted much of the day looking at stuff that we didn't want. He did however manage to take us to Wat Benchamabophit (The Marble Temple) which was gorgeous this was our first taste of Thai culture and it was amazing. We also got to see the Lucky Buddaha. Apparently this is a temple that is usually closed almost all year. The temple is visited by people who want good luck for future endeavors like marriage or buying a house. Our final stop on this shop filled tour was the Bangkok zoo, we only got to look around for an hour because the tuk tuk driver only took us there an hour before it closed. The next day we got a late start and it was pouring rain so we only managed to make it to one temple Wat Pho (Temple of Reclining Buddha). It's the largest temple in Bangkok and famed for its huge reclining Buddha which measures 46 meters long and covered in gold leaf. The Buddha's feet are 3 meters long and we looked tiny next to them. That night we went to Suan Lum night market and bought some souvenirs. Then we went to the Patpong district which was crazy so we didn't stay long. The last day was by far the best. we went to the Grand Palace which was spectacular and included our favorite temple Wat Phra Kaeo (the temple of the Emerald Buddha). This temple was so elaborate and shiny, all the buildings were covered in mirrors and sequins with bright colors. Our Pictures really don't do it justice because it was a really overcast day so all the pictures turned out kind of gray. Tomorrow we will go to Ayutthaya and then on to Chaing mai. Bankok has been a great city with plenty of things to see and do. The food here is some of the best and the cheapest we have found. We generally eat for about five dollars but here it has been more like three or four. Eating here is a big high light of our day and in every city we have been to we generally fine one or two restaurants and we just keep going back. Traveling has been fun so far and i think it will continue to be. We miss everyone back home and thanks for staying in touch.
