28/7/09 Off to Darwin which was only an hour away, We arrived at 10.30am & got settled at the Oasis Caravan Park $26 a night. The Park is a shady, well maintained friendly park. While Den put up the awning I hung out the washing & made a shopping list etc. We then left the girls in the van with the air con on & went & did the shopping & picked up the mail & got petrol ($131.7c & gas .77c ). We came back & unpacked & I got tea & we decided to go up to the BBQ area at the park as they had a guy coming to the park that brought a Salt Water Croc for people to hold & he told us all about them, very interesting. Den & I had a hold of it & it felt cold, soft & smooth on its belly & leathery on top. They had its mouth tied shut with a Velcro strap & it was about 1.2 mt’s long . We stayed & had a drink with the owners & two other couples & it was a good night. 31 deg & hot today, we did 88 km
today
29/7/09 We went into Darwin today & Den got a new anchor for the Kayak at BCF, We spent an hour at the bank sorting out a bank fee ( which we won ). We then made our way to Fisherman’s Warf & got Barra & Chips & took them to Bicentenary Walk & sat on the grass with the girls & ate it. We then took a walk & saw some of the war memorial tributes, by this time it was hot so we headed back to the van. We had happy hour & I took the girls for a walk & Have-a-chat Den was talking to the neighbours when I got back. We had tea & watched the TV with the air con on
30/7/09 Den went into Darwin early to get the car serviced, while I stayed at the van & had a good clean up. The car needs to go to another mechanic as it is running rich & chewing fuel & needed a special computer to adjust it , so Den has to take it in again tomorrow . So have decided to stay 3 more days in Darwin as we have lost
2 days sightseeing with the car. Den spent the day in Darwin sightseeing & walking the streets . He went to see the Underground Oil Tankers from WW2, Parliament House & The Governors House .Talked to Mike & Rob on Skype this avo , although connection not real good, they are well & are coming out again in August, also I missed talking to Lorraine on Skype, I did not see her message till too late. When Den got home we went into Minindal Markets they are open from 5pm to 10 pm on Thurs & Sun nights. They are on the beach front & we have never seen such an array of food stalls, every cuisine you could imagine , lots of clothes & the usual stuff. There were hundreds of people that took their chairs & had a drink & listened to the entertainment & watched the sun set over the water, it was beautiful ( I think a lot of men sat & drank while their wives & partners shopped, way to go ) . We came back to the van & 2 happy dogs to see us.
31/7/09 Den took the car into the other
mechanic & he discovered that there was a vacuum hose off the back of the manifold , its all fixed now & running heaps better. I did some washing & boring stuff while Den was gone & when he got back we booked Annie into the Vet as she has been loosing weight, drinking heaps of water, starving hungry & panting a lot. We took her in & the vet did some blood tests & they think she has Cushing’s Disease , but they need to do some more tests to see if its that. If it is hopefully it can be treated with tablets , we may have to stay an extra few day so we can get her medication right. We came home & Den watched the footy & we went to bed.
1/8/09 Den’s Birthday, happy 59th Den. He got lots of texts & phone calls & video messages which was very nice & he appreciated it very much. We went to Parap Markets & then to the Darwin City Casino for lunch then we went to Casuarina Shopping Centre & had a Cold Rock ice cream ( yummy ) . We got home mid afternoon
& I cooked Den a baked dinner for his birthday & after a few more phone calls & a few more drinks we went to bed. We are going on a sunset cruise tomorrow night on Darwin Harbour it was booked out for Saturday.
2/8/09 We actually slept in this morning, had bacon & eggs for a late brunch. It’s still hot , averaging 31 - 33 degrees & 18 degrees of a night but the heat is dryer up here at this time of year. Mid afternoon we got ready to go to Stokes Hill Warf for our Cape Adieu Dinner Cruise. ( $89 each )We got there early & had to have a drink before we got on & after meeting at the wharf at 5pm we were welcomed on & had a table for two , which was very nice. We took a bottle of wine with us & we sat back to enjoyed a 4 course meal which was great. The harbour was calm & not rough & the food was scrumptious . We ate too much & watched the sun go down over the water & we were told about all the sights &
attractions on the harbour. After the sunset we cruised for another 1 ½ hours & we were home by 9pm. We fell into bed having ate too much ( and me drank too much ) & we had another big day tomorrow, an all day Croc Tour. Goodnight Irene.
