Me, Aoife and Dara
¡Hola, mi amagias y amagos! So we landed in Mexico city at about 4pm their time, quite tired after traveling for about 15hours. Dara had gotten a different flight to us, so as me and Aoife settled down to wait for her at the arrivalś gate, we luckily noticed that her plane wasn't coming up on the monitor so once we asked (me practicing my newly acquired Spanish) we raced over to the correct terminal to meet her. All this meant we didn't have too long to wait so once out we all got a taxi to the hostel.
The hostel is in the Centro Historica which is dead handy, but the room is very dark. The matresess however are the best ever so we were delighted with that as we were all knackered. A quick wander round the square and a bit of difficulty looking for somewhere to ear before we heading back for a well deserved sleep!
Bright and early this morning after going through the ´aul guide books again, we decided there is so much to do that we´ve booked another night. So after a fab breakfast in the hostel, we went wandering round the square looking at the big Cathedral and the ruins of the old Aztec temple that the Spanish knocked down when they arrived. Me being a big Diego Riveria fan made sure that we went into the government buildings to have a look at the amazing murals. They are brilliant.
Then we decided to take the tourbus to get our bearings of the city. It was really warm today which we weren´t expecting as it was raining last night and the forecast wasn´t good for this week so the open top was great. We got on and off, having fabulous street food of tacos at one point. An old Mexican man was laughing at Dara and me as we loaded on the hot chile sauce, but of course it was no bother to us spice fiends and we wolfed it down. Bring on more street food! Iĺl be coming back the size of a house.
The Avenue Reforma has amazing sculpture all along both sides of seats done in different ways. Our favorites were the big bronze sofas that we found and we tried to sit in as may as possible testing them out for comfort along the way, very annoying when they were occupied. Dara also get all her evil spirits spirited away in a pre hispanic ceremony - might try it myself later!!
So off to the condesa zone for nice grub tonight (although we were thinking of going to some masked wrestling thatś apparently on ) then tomorrow going to go to the floating gardens area, which has what sounds like a very bizarre island installation of decomposing dolls on it... so I off to practice more Spanish. ¡Hasta Luego!
