We left Christina Lake on Saturday and had a pretty big driving day. We stopped at a few little towns along the way including Grand Forks where there was a giant seniors liquidation sale. We managed to snare a few bargains like a Frisbee for a buck (yay activities) and a badminton set (sans net) for $2. We also decided to splurge on lunch - we had passed a sign saying Cheryls pies - I immediately conjured up images of a delicious bakery contatining meat pies. Of course how wrong I was - being in Canada and all, it was of course fruit pies. So instead we shared a turkey panini and had a slice of rhubarb and strawberry pie. Whilst it was delicious, it was slightly disappointing after just wanting a good ole Mrs Macs.
We kept on driving through the afternoon (I was even allowed to drive although was constantly criticised for the shoulder hugging). We drove through a little town called Osoyoos (how are you even supposed to pronounce that?!?) where we drove passed a little theme park. The little kid in both of us came out and I pulled a U-turn (very safely of course) and
Go Karting
Right before i whooped him in our race we purchased a round of mini-golf (Zach just couldn’t stand that I won something) although it was not to be in round two. He beat me by 3 strokes, although I must say both our skills had progressed as no one shot above a 4. Thought: become Tiger Woodsesk and travel the country earning millions of dollars playing golf. Genius. Or perhaps the course just wasn’t as challenging, I prefer the former option. We also went go- karting which was ridiculously fun. We had a little race and on occasions I forgot that they weren’t actually bumper cars (whoops!). After our fun little side adventure we got on the road again and decided to go all the way to Penticton.
After stopping at a ‘Save on Foods’ and becoming a member - hopefully by the end of the trip I’ll have a discount card for every major grocery store, we headed down to the local ‘beach’ where we had schnitzels and once again salad. After checking out the camping situation and finding that the cheapest was $27 we opted for the Walmart option. After we had finished dinner and washed the dishes in the park washrooms (so classy and
even more so - hygienic) it was getting dark and we headed on over to the local Walmart. Many of our RV friends were already there and had staked out the good spots, our first choice in location had rendered us directly beneath the parking lot spotlights - a rooky error not to be repeated. But we eventually bunked down in a quiet area without spotlights and went to sleep.
The next morning we decided to head to the visitors centre to pick up some brochures on what to do, there were many on watersports, particularly on renting things to do watersports. And it was decided, we were to go jetskiing. After going to the first company and seeing that they only had one jet ski at the moment we decided to keep checking (Zach couldn’t face the idea of sharing..actually neither could I). We eventually found a company that had two sexy looking jet skis and was actually cheaper than the others. Bingo! We rented them for a half hour and had a lot of fun. Although I was froze by the end of it, and unfortunately neither of us fell off, it was a very good half
hour. By the end of it we were starving and had some lunch on the beach (PB&J anyone?). Afterwards Mr Kilner decided to neglect me and go to the skatepark, I could think of a million other places I would rather be and decided to take myself off t o the museum. Upon arriving at the museum I realised it was Sunday and it wasn’t open, but I had seen a boat that looked vaguely historical on the beach. Once id gotten there, it had said there was a private party, I could hear some screaming and a whole bunch of adults going into the private party so I just followed a few of them in. I walked around the bottom level before an employee approached me so I feigned stupidity and asked when the boat would be open again, he said Tuesday and asked me when I was in town till. I said that it was a shame as I would be leaving Monday morning to which he let me go upstairs and have a private viewing of the boat myself. Fun! After spending an hour and a half at the boat museum I picked up Zach and we
went to Safeway and picked out a delicious lemon and garlic marinated chicken which we cooked with some beans served on a bed of alfredo pasta (ok not the best pairing but still rather delish) which we ate beachside. Did the dishes in the washrooms, and headed back to our home at Walmart (note: didn’t park under giant spotlights). It was a good day.
On Monday we woke up and had another big driving day, we drove for about 6 hours and stopped for lunch in Princeton and afternoon snack in Hope. Today also marked another momentous occasion, the first time we had ever passed another vehicle. Normally, not being in a rush or anything (and also with Stan’s abilities to go high speeds) we sit a bit below the speed limit. However today we had met our match, someone even more willing to go below the speed limit, and we did the unthinkable. We passed that RV driven by oldies like there was not tomorrow. Go Stanny! Anywho we eventually made it to our destination at Chilliwack, which is quite a big town and not that far from Vancouver. Although none of the gas stations have maps so
we spent a bit of the afternoon trying to find a grocery store and then a nice park in which to have dinner. We also spent a little bit of time, and while I’m slightly ashamed to admit it, but also partly proud of our resourcefulness, driving around the suburbs - laptops out - and finding wireless networks that aren’t locked. Ahh the joy of free internet. After a little bit of surfing we went to a park and had dinner, then off to old waldogs again.
We arose and everntually found the information centre, and the lady that helped me (she was kinda my ageish) had spent 2 years in Aus and also had a sister who was currently living in Auchenflower. Crazy, well it got me excited. Anywho we went to Cultis Lake where it was actually kinda warm and we went swimming and jumped off the jetty. Also got to laze around and read - one of my favourite activities - which was nice and relaxing. At about 5ish we packed up and drove to Langley as we had read somewhere that there was a drive in movie. Although the problem is, as we get closer
My boat tour
I had to set the camera on self timer and run across - i know - im pretty cool. to Vancouver, the towns are bigger and navigation becomes increasingly more difficult - especially when you're too cheap to buy a $4.95 map for every town you pass through. We found the drive-in after asking around at some local gas stations and are now just chilling until our 9.30 movie (how an earth am I going to stay awake for this? I like to be in bed at 10 latest..such a nanna already)
Thanks for keeping on reading,
Love KJ and Zach
Note: Zach actually has nothing to do with the writing of the blog - although he sometimes helps in recalling facts, names of places and selection of photos.
