Sorry its been a while friends, but as it stands many of our days have been the same these last few weeks and an average day looks a little like this: 4:20am First alarm goes off, KJ rolls over and hits snooze 4:29 am Second alarm goes off, KJ rolls over and hits snooze 4:38 Third alarm goes off, KJ rolls over and hits snooze. 4:45 KJ hits zach and says “we really need to get up” A quick mad rush ensues as we go pee (in disgusting bathrooms - more to follow), fill up our water bottles and walk to the orchard (in the dark - as the orchard is on a hill, we can actually see all the lights still on in Kelowna). We pick cherries from about 5 until anywhere between 11 and ... read more

After arriving in Kelowna on one fine sunny and ridiculously hot Sunday afternoon, we have spent the last week with no money and pretty much finding all the free stuff around town. The first few days of our new town were spent checking out some of the great beaches around and you guessed it, lying around and reading. It is now warm enough where we can spend more than 5 minutes in the water without having to get out but now means we sweat like crazy and its very uncomfortable to sleep in ole stanny. We also went for a nice walk downtown, although its not as fun knowing that you cant even contemplate buying anything. But still good to have a looksy at all the cute little stores and cafes. We also spent time at ... read more

To begin where we left off: After adding the guest writers log in the cute little cafe, we were pretty much exhausted and spent the rest of the arvo lying around reading on the beach. The next day we met some of the guys from our lesson and all hired surfboards, wetsuits and little booties. The water was pretty cold and i wondered if they just wear wetsuits all year round (our instructor said she goes out in the middle of winter in -2 degrees..crazy). So we spent pretty much the whole day surfing and were managing to improve and catch some of the bigger waves. By the end of the day we were pretty exhausted and my arms felt like they were at least growing some muscles (yeah right). We returned the boards (thank goodness ... read more

Making a guest appearance on the blog this entry will be none other than yours truly, Zachary Kilner. Where to start things off.... A bit of pre- satruday knowledge, I was looking for jobs on kiijji when I came across a volunteer ad for a car wash. Being the selfless man I am I opened it up and read about a charity car wash these people were having for a young girl with brain cancer. Because we are good people (and don't have anything of importance to do, but mostly because we are awesome) we emailed the lady and told her we would be delighted to help out. Come Saturday at Petro Gas station, the weathers looking like a chance of showers, dimming our hopes of cars needing to be cleaned. Luckily the weather cleared up ... read more

After spending our first night in Victoria in, where else but Walmart, we decided to head down town and take a look around. After having some difficulties finding free parking, we gave up and paid a whole $2 an hour for parking. We walked around downtown for a while going into a whole bunch of bookstores, pawn shops, CD shops and cute little boutique stores. Then, being a Sunday we found some markets (only a tiny strip but better than nothing) and looked at all the crafty stuff (so cultured we are). We had a quick bite to eat and a stall from the markets before continuing our journey into china town. Fun fact: Victoria’s china town is the oldest in Canada. Anywho so we continued on and went into an old school record store where ... read more

To start where we last left off: We went to the drive in and lucky for us it was tight ass Tuesday and we managed to save a couple of $. We actually considered me jumping in the back and hiding myself to save more money but decided that it looked quite desperate and lonely going to the drive ins yourself and Zach didn’t want to “be that guy”. We had also managed to sneak in some snacks as you just know a bucket of popcorn is going to be like $15 at these places and the “strictly no outside food or drinks” sign was swiftly ignored. So anyways we rock up to our conveniently chosen spot - not too far out the back - cos you just know whats going on in those cars. And ... read more

Oh Walmart...

We left Christina Lake on Saturday and had a pretty big driving day. We stopped at a few little towns along the way including Grand Forks where there was a giant seniors liquidation sale. We managed to snare a few bargains like a Frisbee for a buck (yay activities) and a badminton set (sans net) for $2. We also decided to splurge on lunch - we had passed a sign saying Cheryls pies - I immediately conjured up images of a delicious bakery contatining meat pies. Of course how wrong I was - being in Canada and all, it was of course fruit pies. So instead we shared a turkey panini and had a slice of rhubarb and strawberry pie. Whilst it was delicious, it was slightly disappointing after just wanting a good ole Mrs Macs. ... read more

On Saturday we had to go to the hospital after I spent a lovely night, shivering, then burning up, throwing up and generally just having a good time. We had discovered that Cranbrooks doctors and walk in clinics didn’t open on Saturdays or Sundays (cos people obviously don’t get sick on the weekends). So instead had to go check in at emergency where we spent 3 hours and after a few blood samples and an IV we finally got out of there. The next 2 days were spent watching movies, catching up on gossip girl and the office and sleeping in one of Cranbrooks finest motel rooms (thanks ma and pa) and eventually I was feeling better. The time finally came after spending so far all of our trip in Cranbrook to say goodbye. It was ... read more

Happy birthday..to me! So the departure of stan the van was off to a slight delay. The boys (zach and ben) did a bit of home mechanics and decided they would replace the rotors themselves. All seemed ready to go when we deccided we should test it out and make sure it had been done right, low and behold the brakes now did not seem to really stop the car, merely slow it down..problem. we then took it to good ole canadian tyre to get hte problem figured out and $567 later, we now have a new brake system - kinda important but still a blow to the budget. We also discovered the wicked 5 CD stacker stereo doesnt work along with ole Stan being able to start about 50% of the time.. We finally ended ... read more

The pick up of Stan

Published: May 26th 2009North America » Canada » Alberta » Calgary

Blog for our Mums Today was the day we had long awaited (well since Saturday at least), it was time to pick up Stan (aka the Manitee). We first headed to AMA to get insurance (absolute mission and a half, also quite pricey) and a lovely licence plate to hide Stans goodies. Eventually we headed on over to the dodgy side of town to pick up Stan from the toothless owner. At last he was ours. Driving back to Sarahs house was stressful to say the least, "Zach put two hands on the steering wheel", "Zach slow down", "zach get closer to sarash", "zach dont be so close to sarah" and the subsequent "KJ shut the hell up" followed. But we made it safe and sound. the next few hours was spent trying to get ... read more
