Jakarta Welcomes youJakarta Welcomes youJakarta Welcomes you

My cousin Felina! What a great host she has been to me!
I have definitely less photos of Jakarta but that doesn't mean I'm having any less fun here.

I've replaced eating with shopping as my new obsession!!!!!! Well maybe I have them both running concurrently but Jakarta is definitely the place to indulge the latter.

I love SHOPPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love it I love it I love it!!!!!!

Jakarta is such a blast! I didn't realise how modern and vibrant it is. The people are really nice .... like really; as in opposite to fake, faking it, pretending to be nice, not being nice at all, not giving a damn. The service industry here knows the meaning of service. Retail is done smoothly and with panache; and what I mean by that is well designed retail spaces and a real variety of labels both local and international. it's fine for me to be impressed as an Australian but Felina is a seasoned international shopper and even she says it's good. I don't think I can ever shop in Australia again....it's just such a drab and painful experience in comparison.

Labels I like are:

Bin : Totally hand produced by the same people from weaving the fabric to the batik printing to the design of the clothing. Very funky take on the Chinese qipao. Bought a red top here.
BIASA : Went completely gaga in this shop and bought heaps of stuff. The shop itself is just gorgeous with a floating steel stair Bannister and ingenious way of hanging the clothes. Designs are done from gossamer cotton fabrics, using mutes neutrals and whites. Patterns are geometric and use texture as a design feature.
Parang Kencana : Batik clothing but a but a bit hit and miss with the designs which tend to be a bit Holly Hobby at times.
Elizabeth Wahyu : local jewelery designer who uses a lot of natural semi precious stones.
Linea : OMG shoes!!!!!! They stock shoes from well known international labels
Zara : started by a nobody, is now a multi million dollar label that knocks off European street designs making it a great place to get great basic wear. I bought 10 pieces from here!!!! eeek!

OK and here are the labels that I am yet to check out but Felina has put on "my to do list"
X(S)ML
Batik Keris
GG5 (Singapore label)
Mphosis (local label)
Jade

These are all my shopping bags. I wish I took more photos of the shops as well. Shopping in Jakarta is truly a superior world class experience!!!!!!! Felina was also an excellent guide making a bee line to the best local brands.

Can't believe you said...
Did you really say that food didn't feature very high in Jakata???? It looks wonderful. If the shopping was better then it must have been out of this world!!!!! The photos of Jakata are super chic and beautiful. It's been sooooooooo wonderful reading about your adventures to date. It's my injection of the exotic here in dull old Lecce!!!!!!!! Have a great time in Bali... I bumped into my old yoga teacher the other day and told him that you were going to Bali for yoga and he turned flourescent green with envy... me too! Miss you sooo much Pi Wei! Big, big big kiss and cuddle to you!
