Hola once again.
A little bit more frequent with some updates but im just getting to lazy to write these things.
Anyway - Bolivia Its really cheap! Great!
Apart from being cheap its also full of argies with their bad trousers. Sorry Chris forgot the photo but will get one on here soon. The first stop was Copacabana not the beach in brazil but the hippy place on Lake Titikaka. The place is all about peace, love and boats, with a bit less peace and love and lots of boats. Unfortunately I decided to take another boat trip to some Island in Lake Titikaka. Another 5 hour round trip with some great views of water! but made a great choice to dash to La Paz. Running off the boat I grabbed my stuff, jumped in a collectivo (minibus) and headed for the capital.
On the road to La Paz you have to cross part of the Lake. This means everyone has to jump out of their vehicles and catch a boat across (bloody boats) and then the car, minibus, bus follows you on some floating barge. Got to La Paz somehow through the snow and the rivers
in the streets due to all the rain. Struggled to find a place to stay because it was the new pres inauguration or something like that.
So the next day wondered round La Paz and stumbled across the Coca Museum. Really cool place but with loads of reading. Tells you all about the benefits of the Coca leaf, how to chew it and make it to cocaine. It does have serious point and shows how the society was with coca before the western world got involved and tookover with Coca Cola and using it for drugs. Afterwards ended up stumbling into the witches market. Bit late now if anyone wanted a llama featus bringing back. Though I thought i would see some more crazy stuff but most of it was tourist tack. Also got to see the Valle de la Luna with some crazy rock formations.
I then decided to go on the DEATH ROAD! So good prep for a days mountain biking on the worlds most dangerous road is to meet up with Jay (drago driver) and go out until 5am. More or less an hour later jump in a minibus to get taken to the road.
It was the best bike ride ive ever done, its all down hill. You go down 3400m in 60km. The first bit was great on the tarmac. Then after lunch we came to death road and the dirt track. It was hard work on the hands and the bum. Got back to La Paz with a free t-shirt and sore arse for my efforts.
I then headed for the backward town of Uyuni where I got on a salt flat tour. Packed up a 4 x 4 with 7 tourists, a crazy bolivian cook and a grumpy tour guide, then headed for the salt flats. The salt flats were cool even though they were flooded, you could still see all the formations and the endless white. Its great for photos. Then left for lunch where we treated the couples to a romantic meal in the train scrap yard. Great choice driver.
The rest of the tour we got to see loads of different rock formations and lagunas full of flamingos. There were thousands of them, which was good to see but not good for the camera as the battery ran out just before the end, just missed out
on getting a photo of the laguna verde (green lake). The last day of the tour we were off at 5am to see the geysers which were really cool or should say hot! Then had to go drop the rest of the group at the Chile border. Couldnt resist running into Chile illegally (Dodgying the bullets from the guards - only joking mum). The rest of the day was in the jeep back to Uyuni for me where I grabbed a train to the border. Altogether I thinked I travelled for about 35 hours or something like that.
Got to the border town the next morning and then onto the land of mullets, bad trousers, steak, red wine and one overweight ex footballer.
Hope your all well and im not borin you too much. Glad to see Perkins and Chris have set off on their travels. Lookin forward to hearin about Perkins first batch of dehli belly. Then again he should be used to it after trying his veg.
See you soon
Dave
