I already updated you on the long bus journey from Puerto Iguazu to Buenos Aires (BA) so I will not bore you (Fuzzy take note) with the details again! Anyway, arrived in BA and took a taxi to our hostel on Avenida Corrintes. The taxi man let us out and we tried to search for the entrance! Entrance to Augur Hostel found we are buzzed into the building. As we walk up the flight of steps to reception I noticed a rather recognisable image on one of the doors-see picture! Anyhow, ignoring that, we get into the hostel and our dorm room which was quite big and only Brim and I had to share it 😊
Decided to take a walk into the city centre to the tourist information. 40 minutes later we get there and agree, on way back we will catch the underground!!! BA is a far cry from the smaller towns at the falls however the city feels really safe and once we had tried out the underground system, really easy to navigate.
In the city centre we found the tourist information although they were not particularly helpful on Tango activities but it was next door to the
Outside of shopping centre at Carlos Gardel
Rowena, took this one for you as thought it was perhaps Art Deco ish?! ticket office for the Buenos Aires bus tour (a hop on and hop off system) and agreed it may be worth getting a ticket for one day so we could get an idea of where we could and wanted to go! A few minutes from the tourist information is the cathedral square with the Rosada Palace so we had a quick look around there, I may well have stood in front of the palace and started signing ¨Don¨t cry for me Argentina¨, before heading back to the hostel! Our nearest tube stop was called Carlos Gardel (for those in the know he was one of the original Tango singers in Buenos Aires).
Back at the hostel I asked about any football games and they confirmed BOCA Juniors were playing Arsenal (not the Arsenal but another Arsenal!) next day at 3pm. The hostel could get us tickets and arrange transportation to and from the match. They informed us that "the Irish guy" was also going to the game. I was not sure if Brim would want to come and was more than happy to go it alone however Brim said she had never been to a game before - I am
A decorated Christmas tree in BA
For Fairy - the shop was unfortunately closed otherwise you may have received an Argentine Christmas bauble! not sure why we never dragged her to Bramble Lane when I was up in Sheffield as I recall sitting at a few games freezing my a*** off on a number of occasions - and wanted to give it a try! I was not convinced that (a) her mum would think it was a good idea and (b) that a South American team and stadium be such a good choice of a debut match however she said she didn¨t want to hang out on her own so we handed over our money (no tickets yet provided to us) and looked up the current BOCA news. BOCA were not having a great start to the season so hopefully we could reverse things on Sunday!
