Isla del Sol

Hey Guys,
Well, we were sad to leave Peru, it truly is a wonderful country and we look forward to returning someday. That being said we were excited to visit Bolivia as we had heard many good things from other travellers and had planned some fun of our own for there. So a 4 hour bus ride and we entered Bolivia and onto Copacabana. Once there we purchased our ferry tickets for Isla Del Sol and decided to wander around town. We really lucked out since it was Sunday and at the local cathedral they were having the weekly ¨blessing of the cars¨ It was pretty neat thing to watch but we feel that the pedestrians are the ones who need the blessings in South America 😊 Afterwards we decided to climb the biggest hill in town to get a good view. This seemed like a good idea, but after we got halfway up we realized we set our watches the wrong way when we entered Bolivia and instead of having 2 1/2 hours until the boat we only had 1/2 hour, so we ran down the damn hill to catch the boat. This isn´t our first experience with screwing up time before leaving somewhere - just ask Diane about our ¨gotta get to the airport from downtown Van in 15min¨experience. Anyways we made the boat and were off.

Upon arriving on the island we got the pleasure of climbing 4 million stairs to the top of the Island to find a hostel. I think we were both ready to die at any moment on those stairs, luckily I had a small local boy cheering me on and trying to persuade me to stay at his family´s hostel. After numerous attempts to ditch the kid we finally found a beautiful hostel on the southern tip of the Island with a breathtaking view of the sunsets and the coast. We were fortunate enough to have the whole hostel to ourselves so we decided to spend and extra night and take advantage of our awesome view and relaxing balcony.

The next day we started out on our 20km circuit hike to the northern end of the island to check out the ruins of Chincana and the Grey Puma Stone. The hike is really great as you have great views of both sides of the island as you walk along the top ridge of the island. The hike was relatively easy except uphthe ill portions at above 4000m do leave you a little winded, but at that height the sun feels really good! The ruins were good to see although we are now a little jaded after Machu Picchu but still good all the same. We´re convinced the puma stone looks more like a fox but what the hell do we know.

All in all Isla del Sol was a great experience, the only issue we had was when Tyne almost had to fight an 80year old woman - pretty funny story. OK, we were leaving our hostel to go for dinner when we walk up to a small pasture and see a baby LLama, so I tell Tyne to take some pictures. Anyways as Tyne´s taking pics I see this old lady start running over to us so I realize what´s up and tell Tyne to put the camera away. She wasn´t fast enough so the woman begins to demand money from Tyne and Tyne tries her best super innocent tourist and tells the lady she doesn´t understand to which the lady calls bullshit and starts getting really upset so we just walked away while our new friend cursed us out the whole way! It was awesome. I told Tyne she should have just pulled out the camera and started taking pics of the woman but I´m sure that walking away was best.

So enjoy the baby Llama pics cause we´re now cursed because of them and the rest of the pics too. We´ve got some feedback that sometimes the pics don´t upload, all I can say is we can always see them so maybe just check back later.

Cheers,

Matt & Tyne
