Thankfully, Brian took the day off prior to the flight, and Katrinka managed to have everything staged and ready to go as she finished her last business meeting in Seattle before the trip. Being home, Brian mowed the lawn, took care of the trash in the house, cleaned out the kitty litter, bought pet food, and hit the bank for the very last of their 'crisp, new bills' (a mysterious requirement of Ethiopian commerce when it comes to USD). The hardest part of the day involved taking Apollo (our dog) to his grandpa and grandma (Pat and Kathy for those who know them!). As usual, it was harder for us than it was for him. Fortunately, he has a huge lot to romp around in, a lake to swim in when he gets hot, other dogs to play with (Bridget and 'big Apollo'), and an endless supply of racoons and squirels to harrass. He'll be fine.

Our flight leaves at 7:30 am tomorrow morning. Pat and Kathy will be taking us to the airport bright and early. Well, maybe not so bright when they get here. The last phonecall confirmed that we'll leave for the airport by 4:45am. You probably know that Katrinka and I don't recognize this hour of the day, so we'll be looking forward to just getting onto the plane so we can sleep for the first leg of the journey.
As a recap, we fly directly to Washington DC (Dulles). Then a long layover in DC before boarding Ethiopian Airlines for the long-haul to Addis Ababa!

From this point on, we'll hope to update the blog as we travel. Stay tuned!

Thank goodness the lawn is mowed! ;-) We're up on east coast time and it's about twenty minutes before you have to leave. Mentally sending you prayers and good wishes. And a cup of Dunkin's Donuts coffee so you don't have to spend any "crisp, new bills" while you wait at the gate at Seatac. The excitement in RI has built to a crescendo. We're excited, worried, excited, happy. So glad you have this blog so we can follow along. Love, April
