Drive to Kaikoura
Seal on rock beside road Did you know that all comments on this blog will be inserted into it and when we finally reach home and make it into a book they will make it in too - so get commenting!!!!
Next day we headed east and once at the east coast drove south a bit to the town of Kaikoura the weather was miserable we stopped to see lots of seals on the coast and got some more good photos.
Matty had to get running repairs on his surfboard and got up early to get it to the menders within 2 hours he was ready to go and went for a surf. Nibby did some shopping and some BLOG typing and photo uploading. Typical Matty got nicked for speeding on the way home from his surf $60 down the drain. When will he learn!!!! The following day was more surfing for Matty followed by a drive out to seal point but decided against the walk because it was a bit cold so we found something much more exciting... wine tasting! It was a small vineyard but the wine was good. On the way back to the hostel we stopped at a sheep
Kaikoura
Sheep Sheering - Maybe Nibby could get a hair cut too?? shearing show where a local farmer gave a running commentary on how to sheer, surprisingly, a sheep!!!!
Our next stop was Hanmer Springs. When we got there we found a really cool self contained unit with free mountain bike hire and after some careful negotiations got it within our daily budget. We spent 4 days in Hanmer Springs, there were lots of mountain bike tracks ranging from beginner to expert and we spent 3 of the 4 days riding around getting more adventurous as the time went on. The other day we went to the main attraction of the village the thermal springs. There were about 12 or so different pools some which you could swim others were more like hot tub size and you just sat there, they were all different temperatures and we spend the day jumping from hot to cold to hot again we also took advantage of the Sauna and Steam rooms we felt real pampered!!!
