Heading Out to Hawai'i

Ann wisely studies everything she can about wherever we are going. I study on a lot of stuff so when it comes to vacations and travel, I am content to accept whatever happens and go with the flow. So getting up at 3 in the morning is no big deal if we are to make connections from Sarasota to Atlanta to Honolulu to Hilo in time to take a room at the Elderhostel's hotel a day early.

The camera recorded some of the flight, the marvelous garden courtyard of the Honolulu airport, and our Hawai'ian Airline plane. Unrecorded was that we made every connection just fine despite my anxiety.

My being closer to 74 years of age than not, 21 straight traveling hours was not kind to me, something I didn't expect. The result was that I handed the taxi driver a twenty instead of a ten when he dropped us off at the hotel. He apparently was most grateful for my generosity because he left quickly with a big smile before Ann had me check again what I had given him.

One of the good things about Elderhostels is that most decisions about logistics are handled by the director. We were still 20 hours away from that prospect. But we took the situation in hand and enjoyed managing that time.

Our room was very nice, looking out on the banyan tree-lined drive out front. We found a reasonably inexpensive supper downstairs, took it easy till bedtime, found small stores with tasty things for breakfast and lunch, took pictures of local buildings and features, and napped, not necessarily in that order.

photo of Honolulu
I forgot to say I love your photo of Honolulu from the air - clearly showing punchbowl and all the surroundings. The clouds are artfully arranged too! What a shot!
