Day 26 - San Pedro De Atacama - Chile

We leave this morning at 4.30am to travel the same journey we did a few days ago. We even stop for a break back at the hot springs we had visited on day 2 of our Jeep tour! Unfortunately this was the only way we could travel to Chile and had no choice but to retrace our steps.

Our Jeep stops at the Bolivian border for us to grab some breakfast before changing into a Chilean minibus for the next part of our journey. As soon as we cross the border we noticed a difference and could tell we were now in Chile. Even the mud roads were different, smooth and straight which only last for a mile or so before we got on tarmac for the first time in a week. It was also the first time we had seen road markings and signs since being in South America.

After a couple of hours to get through the Chilean migration we are dropped off in the small tourist town of San Pedro de Atacama. Due to the poor internet in Tupiza we had not managed to book a hostel here. The weather was boiling as we were now in the driest desert in the world. It was a nightmare trying to find an ATM that worked for some local currency and finding somewhere to stay.

Lucky for us the last hostel (Hostel Inti Para) we stumble across was perfect we managed to book a double en suite room and then to our surprise found out that it had WiFi, this was the first time we had reliable internet access for nearly two weeks.

We spend the rest of the afternoon keeping out of the heat in the hostel and organise our bus and hostel for Santiago.

Day 27 - San Pedro De Atacama - Chile

After a lie in we make the most of the hostels facilities by making porridge and a cup of Tetley tea for breakfast! We packed our bags again and hopefully got the last bus for two months. It is just a short journey to Santiago of 23 hours.
