Well - firstly let me dispell the myth that you get used to the smell. You don't ..... it stinks! Admittedly you find that some areas are worse than others - and if you spot a trail of steam heading out of a hole in your direction - do not inhale until it passes.....

I have a new theory - that the earth is infact oval like an egg (not round as scientists will have us believe) and Rotorua is very close to the centre (yolk) ... and the egg is rapidly going off - hence the awful smell.... In places there are signs that advise you not to walk on the ground as there is a "thin crust liable to collapse" - I think this sufficiently supports my new theory....

Despite the smell - I have to admit that this is a truly amazing place. We spent most of the day at the Wai-u-Tupu volcanic valley - which was amazing. I have taken hundreds of pictures (luckily we do not yet have smelly=vision) - so will no doubt bore you when we get home. Lady Knox Geyser erupted for over 45 minutes - we then wandered around numerous vividly coloured pools, craters and huge pools of bubbling mud. Incredible. Hopefully the pictures will share just some of what we saw....

WOW!
That place looks amazing if just a little smellie, I'm guessing at egg mayo sandwich is not top of the list at the moment?
