We were both sorry to leave Valparaiso as there were so many things happening there every night. We will particulary miss the completos which were basically hot dogs with tomatoes and so much guacemole and garlic mayonnaise on that by the time you tried to bite into it, the hot dog was cold and you have to use a tissue to scrape off all the sauce onto the floor where even the stray dogs stuck their noses up at it.
Sarah broke the tap in the hostal kitchen on the last night. The whole tap came off and water was pumping out into the air. After about 5 minutes of trying to keep the tap on and after 3 people had ran upstairs to help, somebody finally turned the mains water off leaving everyone without water until the morning. I think she did it on purpose so that she wouldnt have to cook again.
The first English person we spoke to since being here just happened to be from Orford. Small World.

We had to go back to Santiago for a day to get a few things sorted and book tickets for an overnight bus down to Pucon in the

Dad, do you fancy coming over here to check the wiring on this pole?
Lake District. We left Santiago at 10pm and arrived in Pucon this morning at half past 7. The journey was advertised as including breakfast. This turned out to be a couple of custard cream biscuits! We{re both missing our fry-ups a bit.

Pucon is really busy at the moment. Loads of people are on holiday here and we had to go to about 8 hostels before we found one with a room available. It is totally different to Santiago and Valparaiso and sits on a large lake.

The main attraction is a huge volcano which towers above the town and we have bought tickets to climb it tomorrow on a tour. We get kitted out with ice picks and crampons and helmets and all sorts of gear. We have to be up at half 5 though and it is a 5 hour trek up. The photo at the bottom is of the volcano from Pucon. Apparently it is one of the most active in South America.
Wish us luck!
