Wednesday morning I headed out to La Paz with three gals from the park here and headed for what they call Segundas, which are second hand stores in quest of "stuff". Last year I had found this great "segunda" outside the airport in SJD and found some great buys.: an old recliner, a table and with the other gals in tow, we made out well with all of our purchases! However, it being a Monday, I think the segunda owners were not very eager to deal. Usually they are tired from the weekend and may have made enough over the weekend to not have to do too much until later in the week. Definitely were not yet hungry as they would NOT budge on prices. Our dollar is doing better here this year at about 4.5 more pesos than last year to the dollar.

After that, we went to the marina in La Paz (lovely city right on the Sea of Cortez too) and had a great lunch--chile rellenos: my favorite, stuffed chiles. These were HUGE and absolutely delicious. The best so far. After that we went to the new WAL-Mart!!!! Do you believe it? It had just opened in November along with Sam's Club. Nice store and it was great to have some variety so I picked up some things I knew I couldn't get here. And I found my GALLO beer that is about $3.00 per six! Not bad at all. I had found it last year in Costco. Beer is not generally sold here in los Barriles by the 6, 12 or 24 but rather per bottle and can get expensive. Same with wine! I found a greater variety than here.

While I was out and about, Mike painted the back wall a "guacamole" color and it looks terrific. We hope to paint the trailer too and get the gate and front wall done at least this time around. The ugly fence will have to wait until next year. I also need to tile the backs of the steps.

Today I went dune buggying with Brian, a full time resident here in the park and a super nice guy. We went on the "back roads" of the arroyos which are the "wash out" areas where the water from the ocean and heavy rains drain into and then back out to the oceans. These areas are

used by the steer for grazing and by the local people for recreation. The dune buggying experience was fantastic! Brian's dune buggy really is quite comfortable and is not hard on the bumps. We went over to nearby Santiago to see the damage done by this huge fire yesterday that almost destroyed the whole colonial village. So glad that they were able to contain the fire--not sure how as it was a huge fire and there was only one firetruck and I am not sure that that worked.

The winds lay down today so I took advantage and kayaked for a bit but didn't see any good fish. Poop. That is ok. I know that I have to take it slow to break in those muscles that I never use.

So.....that is all for now. Mike is not in as much pain and is enjoying the weather......As am I!

This is a beehive hanging in the cave we investigated. The locals will come in and harvest it and sell.

G Wall
I love the color Mike used to paint the wall. It really looks nice. Still in pain. I will go to dr. on Monday, unless I feel hugely different. The dune buggy looked like fun! Susie
