Jeskeko…

Our period of intensive orientation is progressing very well. Each day we have had 4 hours of language training. Still though, much of what people say is incomprehensible to me, with, of course, the exception of food related expressions seeing as how we are being stuffed like fois gras geese by the program staff.

Yesterday, the Nepali students properly welcomed us. They sang traditional songs and performed traditional dances in our honor. They gave us tikkaa, flowers and gifts. The evening was very pleasant and warm. Nepalis like to dance much more than I do. The robot-the traditional dance of American youths--was introduced however, making for a first-rate reciprocal cultural exchange.

Tamar and I strolled around Kirtipur (the town were we live) and snapped photos a bit today. More staring…

Attached are some images from around town. The High Himalaya were more visible through the pollution today. Nepal is almost as dirty as New Jersey, almost. If you can decipher the white cap in the photo of the Kathmandu Valley, that is a modest peak of about 25,000ft.
