Package
There it is - finally! :-) Well, spent another week at Pablo´s home in Ramos Mejia (waiting for the package to arrive :-) and had a great time. We went to a concert of "La Bomba de Tiempo", which is a "drumming-group" of 17 people, which make improvisational music. It was a great event - pictures have already been published with the blog-entry
Pictures of Buenos Aires. We also tried to see a big cattle-market (sadely it was closed) and saw the big flea-market at the "Defensa"-street in Buenos Aires. I also used the time to make a diagnosis of my blood-sugar (HBa1c) and the result was very good (6.1) - this is within the range of values for a person without diabetes ... and this, whilest I´m not taking any medicine no more and really cannot say, I´ve been very "cautious" about sweets :-) I also contacted the Correo Uruguay to make a formal request to investigate about my package ... let´s see ...
We went to a farewell-party of Johanna (a girl I got to know in Valizas - you know the story (
East Coast of Uruguay)) and it was great fun. Lot´s of interesting people there and afterwards we went to a club and we returned a little bit
late ... so we slept during the next day ;-) In the evening we visited Gaby, the CS-contact Laura gave me and where I sent my package to :-). She´s a really nice person and we spent a nice evening talking with friends - I enjoyed it very much. We also arranged to pick up my package at the main-post next monday (12.01.) - yes, you wouldn´t believe it! It finally arrived! :-) On Monday I was about 45 minutes late ... but thanks god, Gaby was waiting for me and so we finally managed to get my package. It was some kind of funny, because lot´s of people where waiting and they announced the numbers, but in a speed and quality, that I was not able to understand anything ... and at the moment when we went in to pick up my package, there we saw in the background a package "flying" through the whole room and "crashing" on to the floor ... in the first moment it looked like my package, but luckily it wasn´t ... don´t know, if anything other than cloth could have survived this "flight" ... But my things are okay and so finally I
can continue my journey!
I finally decided to continue to an area called "Sierra de la Ventana" (I read about it in an tourist-info-booklet). There are small hills and therefore I would finally see some "mountains" again and can go hiking. :-) There´s a small village there called "Villa Ventana" and guess what? There´s even a CouchSurfer there and he has space to host me! Perfect! The whole area has it´s name because of an hill, with an "window" on top, which the wind has shaped out of rocks. So I bought a ticket to there and departed on the 13th of January at 23:00 from Liniers. It was a great time here (not at last thanks Pablo´s great hospitality), but now I´m looking forward to come to the country-side and leave the big city behind. The bus-ride was okay - it was a semi-cama, but I had two seats, so I just laid across them and was even able to sleep a little bit. They turned on the air-condition like crazy - but luckily Pablo had warned me about this, so I used my winter-jacket (!), otherwise I think I would have been frozen to death! At Villa
Ventana I got picked up by Fernando (very friendly) and we went to his home. His two cousins are also staying there a the moment (for vacations) - they are all very friendly. In the evening they invited me to a traditional asado at their home - some friend did come over and it was a nice evening.
Before I came here, I was thinking about staying 2-3 nights, but the people here are so friendly and the surrounding is beautiful, so in the end I stayed a whole week! I had a really great time there, I went hiking (Cerro Bahia Blanca, Cerro Ventana and Cerro Los Tres Picos (near by ;-)) and just had a great time walking around in the surrounding of Villa Ventana and spending my time with Fernando and his cousins - they even invited me to dinner at their home every night and we had home-made Empanadas, Pizza, Asado, ... - all really great! The village itself is small, but very nice, with lot´s of trees (as you can see at the pictures) and it´s really "silent" - I enjoyed this very much. Some days it was really hot and I know understand,
why there is something called "Siesta" - it´s really necessary! We also went to an wine-yard (estancia) one day and attended a guided tour and had some coffee and really delicious cake :-) I spent some time reading my travel-guides and marking in a (self-drawn) map the points of interest. So it seams, I´m finally getting some kind of "route" for the next days :-) I really enjoyed my stay and time was flying and just when I was thinking about taking a bus the next day to continue my travel, I was lucky and could go with Fernando to the next bigger town (Bahia Blanca), because he also needed to go there and to top it all, I could stay at his parent´s place there too! But this is another story, I will add at the next blog-entry for the east-coast of Argentina (from Bahia Blanca, down to Rio Gallegos).
