This is the second half of our trip to China. We originally were going to go to Xian to see the terracotta warriors; however the trains were sold out. So when we went to book our train to Shanghai (where we flew out of) we were shocked to hear that they too were sold out. We then ended up taking a short flight instead, which worked out better anyways. I guess things don’t always go as planned when you are traveling in foreign countries! Shanghai was a lot more laid back. Our hostel was really nice and warm; it was just like staying in a hotel. We met our co-worker Stacy and her friend that lived there, and spent most of our time sightseeing with them. Her friend had good insight on where to go and also had a private car that would take us there! That was a definite perk. We arrived on New Years so that night he took us to a really showy/high class bar that overlooked the bund; it was gorgeous. The next day we went shopping again; after this trip I will have had my shopping fix for a long time. Later that night, we went out to eat at an all you can eat hot pot restaurant, which is sort of like a fondue only with a spicy broth. My favorite part of Shanghai was the Yugarden park We entered into this shopping village and we were followed by an older toothless gentlemen who said that he would be our free private shopper. He was Mr. Summer and at first we thought this guy was another bum looking for money but he actually helped us find exactly what we wanted, it was awesome. So we just told him what we wanted to buy and he took us to the shop were it was the least expensive. It actually worked out well because he was well informed of the locations of the shops. He then led us to the tourist garden. It was beautiful. The architect and layout was very different than Beijing. The buildings were made in a different time and by a different emperor. There were many beautiful lakes and trees with gorgeous buildings. Later in our trip we went to see the bund during the day. The bund is just an area in Shanghai that has an incredible view of all the buildings and a huge river. We also got to go see the world's tallest building. We went up to the 98th floor and had a drink in their bar. It was a spectacular view. We were so high up that on the elevators on the way down my ears popped! On our trip we also went to a museum and a Chinese acrobat show. Our trip was absolutely amazing and going back to Korea was disappointing for many reasons. The buildings and structures are more exciting in China compared to the monotonous buildings of Korea. Also Chinese people appeared to be taller, on the subway I couldn't see over everyone, this was exciting because we didn't feel like such huge giants. Lastly, the food in China is way better than Korean in our opinion; well in most foreigners opinion! China just had so much to see and do compared to Korea; the history was just more prevalent in sightseeing activities!
