Hi all,
Happy New Year!
We are now in Melbourne, after 2 nights at Queenscliff, an interesting nautical village, and 2 at Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula. We loved Portarlington, where we stayed at a very popular beachside camping ground. We were lucky to get in as it is booked out over summer, we had a site beside the beach, and watched lots of families setting up for their summer holidays. We could see the high rises of Melbourne in the far distance.
Here at Ashley Gardens, our camping ground is very convenient, with shops next door, and a bus stop across the road. Buses leave every 1/4 hour for the city, and an all day pass for bus/ tram/ trains costs $6.50. It is also close to the ring road, and the airport. We have nice people near us too, although it is quiet considering how busy it is at this time of year. We have ventured into the city often, and done a few day trips out, and are working our way through the things to do. The weather here has been cooler (coolest Dec for over 10 years), so we are yet to have a swim in the

pool. At least there are no flies!
We went into South Bank and had a lovely lunch at No 8 resturant for Chris' birthday. We were given 2 bottles of bubbly and 4 of beer to take home as a Xmas gift , which was a nice surprise!
Xmas Day was reasonably quiet here, had drinks with some of the neighbours, and enjoyed our prawns for lunch. Because it was cooler, I cooked a roast dinner at night. (I have used our oven quite a lot, cooks well).
New Year's Eve was even quieter, some around us went to the city to see the fireworks, but we decided not to (getting home could have been a problem), so we watched it on TV instead. (Yes our TV works very well, and is clear as with the digital conversion box).
We have booked to go to Tasmania on the 21st Jan - 28th Feb. After that , we will probably leave our van and car in storage here (this camping ground has a parking area for stored vans and cars) and fly home for a visit. We haven't arranged that yet.
I will post some photos backlogged from the Great Ocean

After the rain, the road was covered in debris, lucky we arrived just after this tree had been cut up by chainsaw, so we could get through.

Hi team, I'm enjoying reading your travel commentaries, they are very well written and you are obviously having lots of fun. The captioned photos are great. Keep them coming. Waiheke has been keeping me busy since the new year. My new boat, a Mustang 2800 is on the mooring it goes very well, cruises at 22kts at 30 litres per hour and it even catches fish. Cheers Rod
