I wish I could go to PV every weekend, but I'd have to win the lottery first!

Another completely random passport stamp, many more to go! I'm one of the few who was glad that the EWR-PVR flight was on sale as the trip to/from was not full at all. On this weekend, most folks are at home shopping for the holidays and/or preparing for loved ones to visit.

Barely twelve hours removed from a holiday party, I found myself in warm and sunny Puerto Vallarta walking up and down the Malecon in El Centro, where I relied on my rusty, but serviceable college-level Spanish to get me around. Most of its citizens speak fluent English, but it's always fun to try to speak the local language.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Rosita, which is located on the north end of the Malecon of downtown or El Centro - it's a poor man's version of Champs Elysees... or the boardwalk you'd find on the Jersey shore. The hotel itself was no-frills, but what else should one look for while traveling solo? Perks include a tasty, cheap Sunday brunch buffet and inexpensive cyber-use. But, if you're looking for peace and quiet (not me!), stay elsewhere. The hotel is right off the main street and in proximity to all of the nightlife. I would imagine it was quite loud until the clubs closed at 4am.

I walked around the area and its hilly areas for culture and exercise. On the downside, I didn't have a chance to explore its many beaches... nor did I take time to enjoy the city's most popular pastimes: drinking tequila or smoking Cuban cigars. But, I did eat a lot of authentic, cheap Mexican cuisine and drink muchas cervezas y mojitos. Props to La Bodeguita del Medio, Pepe's Tacos, and La Palapa for great food!
