Ok, one more entry about Fiji- So yesterday I decided to rent a car and explore a little of Viti Levu, the island that Nadi's on, before jetting out today. Drove up to the city of Lautoka, about half an hour north of Nadi, which was a nice drive but the city is really not much to write home about. Although it was fun driving on the wrong side of the road, sitting on the wrong side of the car with the controls flipped around as well, so I kept turning on the windshield wipers whenever I wanted to make a turn. Quite comical when driving through bustling downtown areas. And since I was up at the crack of dawn today, per the usual, as I am curious to see how long I can stay on NY time, I drove to the Sigatoka sand dunes a little over an hour south of Nadi. My Rough Guide described turning down this dirt road followed by some surprisingly accurate directions through a village where I almost hit a chicken in the road, and miraculously I arrived at the Sand Dunes Inn. The owner let me park my rent-a-dent on his lawn and his 3 dogs accompanied me to the dunes. I ran around with them for a while but then they took off. The dunes were fun to "hike", and good thing it's actually quite overcast today, otherwise I don't think I could have done it barefoot. So that concludes my Fijian adventures! And I know I barely scratched the surface of this place...

dunes
the dunes was one of my favorite spots in fiji, even though i nearly drowned there once -- got caught in a rip-tide. then again, i didn't stay at the fancy resorts, like mana island. the diving sounds fantastic. i'm very jealous.
