A bit of iceberg
The journey down the rest of the east coast was a bit of a trial - only the rubbish seats were left and there were no movies!! I spent most of the journey worrying about this fabled boat I´m supposed to be getting up the Chilean coast on Friday - still no cofirmation of my ticket and it was going to be a horrible journey back up Argentina on the bus if I don´t get on the ship.

I arrived in El Calafate on Monday 8th Dec and decided to stay put for 3 nights. Turns out the hostel can book the boat trip in Chile and even have an MSN messenger contact at the company - akin to a hotline to god!! They booked it for me and a couple of hours later my original booking got confirmed by email also, so, just like buses, there´s nothing for ages, then I get two tickets...

Its all been sorted out now and tomorrow I travel to Puerto Natales in Chile to board the boat prior to sailing Friday morning. I´ve now met several people who´ve sailed on it and heard all sorts of terrifying stories about bad chefs, Smash

for dinner, no cabin doors and bingo sessions in the evening. I met an American couple who are booked on the boat too - they are travelling with a Macbook and spend every evening on Skype to the folks back home. The girl looked terrified and almost tearful when she discovered there may not be wifi on board. Frankly, I´ll be grateful if there´s a working toilet.

Which brings me to today´s activities... I have picked up a stomach bug and its pretty persistent (and so far resistant to immodium - sorry for the excess info). So today has been a day off from the holiday - no tours, no excitement and no expectations. Just a day hanging out, shuffling to the supermarket (more for something to do, rather than to get food to eat!) and now spending a couple of hour in an internet cafe trying to do mundane transactions (booking onward bus from ship - FAIL, booking accommodation in Santiago - possible success, if a little expensive). I also managed to upload a few more photos - please look at them and applaud if you feel like it as each one took 10 minutes to upload!

It´s hot here, much to my surprise - wearing flipflops and t-shirt, and the thermals are still packed away. I did get a bit chilly at Perito Moreno Glacier yesterday - that´s the enormous one which everyone goes to see. Pretty impressive, and fun trying to guess which chunk will fall off next and go crashing into the sea to begin life as an iceberg. I have photos, and would love to upload them, but right now the computer says no. Guys at Helphire - if you are reading this, you have NO idea how up-to-date and efficient your PCs are!! Please send one to me! This one doesn´t even have a ´back´button, nor a working usb! It does, however, have characters on the keys - very exciting as most keyboards here are blank, worn away by desperate travellers trying to find the back button and also make Google speak English...

Send us a bit of rays please...
Lovely pictures of the wildlife down there - it was worth the time of download! My favourite is still the profile picture of the baby croc... You must have been quite close to the whales to get to zoom up their barnicles (or whatever they're called...) How long does it take to attach some little packages of summer warmth to your blog?? We desperately need it here! Enjoy the adventures in Chili and I hope your boat trip goes well...
