the train
there were video games, PCs, cafe, massage chair and noraebang (singing room)! The past few weeks I’ve been training to make up the income that I’m losing by taking a term break. It’s been fun; I’ve definitely meet some interesting characters. It’s been a few weeks, and a few friends and I decided to take a train trip down to Busan.
We started Friday night at Soojin’s house trying to figure out where we would stay, how we would get there and what we would do. We ended up staying up all night and left around 5 in the morning to catch the train. We thought it would be fun to take our time on the train and took the slow (Saemaeul) train. It took us about 5 hours to get to Busan. Even though it was slow, it was pretty sweet. We decided to treat ourselves to first class, which was still cheaper than the KTX. The train was nice; the seats were huge with lots of leg room. The seats could turn around so we could face each other. And there was a separate café cart, with a café bar, video games, PCs, massage chair and even a noraebang (singing room)!!! It was insane.
We got into Busan around
we're in busan!
soojin and christian noon on Saturday and decided the best way to see everything was to go on the city bus tour. I still don’t know if this was the best idea. It took about 30 minutes each time to get to one destination. And being on the bus just made us all sick. We stopped at Taejongdae Resort Park and were hustled by a lady to come into her restaurant to have lunch. We had a hot seafood stew, which was kind of disappointing. Then we got back on the bus and headed the opposite direction to see the United Nations Memorial Cemetery for the Korean War. It was kind of crazy to see all that.
After we left, we decided to go check into our motel. It looked really nice from the website. And it was, only we didn’t know we were checking into a “love motel”. We stayed at ICE MOTEL just near Haeundae Beach, a pretty popular place during the warmer season. And just it was just a few minutes from Busan Aquarium. The motel was pretty sweet. There was a huge bath tub with jets. And Soojin and I decided to turn it into a hot tub
with bubbles and jumped in! There was a huge TV with Nintendo WII and two PCs that were connected to the TV and the surround sound.
We rested for a few hours and played WII while we waited for Brenden to make it down from Seoul. Then we headed down to Gwangalli Beach to get some fish at the fish market. The fish market was insane. It was around midnight but it was still very lively. I felt like a two dollar hooker walking down the street. There were people standing outside trying to call us in to buy there fish. We finally got some fish and then they sent it up to the restaurant for them to cut and set out for us. After eating, we went down to the beach and bought some fireworks from the old ladies. It was pretty sweet! They had a small fire in a tin can going so we thought it would be nice to have some smores. Only thing is that it was pretty difficult to find all the ingredients. Brenden went to the 7 eleven and came back with Choco Pies and Digestive crackers. We put Choco Pies on the
used sparkler sticks and roasted them. Then put them on the Digestives…they were very good!!!
The next morning I had reservations at the Busan Aquarium to go scuba diving with the sharks in the aquarium. I asked my friends if they wanted to go with me, but no one wanted to go and they all thought I was insane for doing it. It was AWESOME!!! We had about 2 hours of training, watching videos and talking to the instructor. Then I went to lunch with some new friends. After lunch we went back to the aquarium and got on our scuba gear. And then went into shallow pool to practice breathing and other techniques. The water was freezing and I had to pee so bad! Everyone kept telling me to just pee in the water, but it was so cold that I couldn’t do it. Then we made our way down into the aquarium to dive with the sharkies! It was amazing to be down there with all the animals. But I was so worried about the scuba diving and the fact that I had to pee that the instructor had to tell me to look around at the
animals. I would definitely like to try scuba diving again. Maybe some place warm next time.
After scuba diving we went back to Busan Station to catch the train back to Seoul. It was a short trip, but seemed like we were there for about a week with no sleep. It was a nice trip, but it’s nice to be back home!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Sharon’s coming to visit in two weeks! I can’t wait!!!
Peace and Love
