Serious Mountaineering
This picture was taken by Yeti in the dead zone of the southern alpes. Although some Japanese hikers robbed our oxygene masks we survived this hazardous trip. welcome again to another update of our serious trip report, so get yourself a decent drink, buckle up and enjoy a closer look behind the curtain of Kiwiland. Before we take off, we'd just like to let u know that u'r always on our minds no matter where we are and what we're doing. Winter is slowly approaching in your hemisphere, provided you are based north of the equator. So, don't give coldness much of a chance, keep your hearts warm.
Yep, still floating thru NZ, still tryin' to find out why people make such fuss about it. We colonized the south island 10 days ago, have been to incredibely beautiful places including jewel-like coasts and bays, majestic mountain ranges, breathtaking fiordlands, dense forests where Tony got lost several times trying to burn some energy on the mountain bike and places almost impossible to describe which sometime appear unreal or haunted as if some spooky Lord of the Rings character would show up all of a sudden.
Our mission to meet locals and get some better insight into matters can hardly be accomplished since we're almost always stuck in our campervan, travelling from A to B to C ... Anyhow we
Keep distance
you better do, these cute-looking creatures can really make u wanna run very fast. We saw a fair bit of them along the east coast as well as in the Fiords down south. were successful a few times and will always remember the little time we spent together. Still don't know who became the new president of the US but we did learn a lot about catle and sheep business. Beside that, NZ is clearly a huge playground (in terms of crazy, extreme, sportive or sometimes just silly outdoor activities) and it's sometimes hard to avoid. The country has plenty to offer, which helps us sometimes to compensate the lack of socialising. Apart from this both of us take it very well that there are still numerous chances to flee from the clutter in the cities, at least you get a feeling of what it means to dive into the wild. We definitely gonna miss the evenings where we melted into nature, sitting by another crystal clear lake, surrounded with alp-like snow covered mountains, together with dumb sheeps and deers (no, not bears fortunately), illuminating the dawn with a brilliant campfire and just letting the time pass by.
Weatherwise we were very lucky so far as it's a well known fact that it can spoil your vacation easily, conditions can change dramatically and dramatically fast, but the sun is travelling with us.
We
Running out of budget
couldnt afford to buy ourself new sweaters in the shops, so we asked the shepherd to make us one. Hmm it's warm and cheap but it stinks and I look even more ridiculous. keep on rolling for quite a while, there's a plane waiting for us on Nov-19. Have a guess where it will take us, we enlighten you soon.
BIG hug from Tony and his mistress ...
