Tomb Raiders

So we won't bore you with another one of our tragic bus nightmares, but what we are going to say about the entire bus ride from the Thai border to Siem Reap is: - all girls require a sports bra for this ride!!

We spent our first night at The 13th Villa where we met William "Bill" Simonsen, a retired Canadian/American expat who soon became a good friend of ours. He was now living permanently in Cambodia and was working towards building a new school for disabled orphans. The DOVE (Disabled Orphans Vocational Education) centre which Bill part funds, is currently located near the Angkor temples where we were invited by the Head teacher for a chicken dinner and viewing of students work. The new school is planned to be complete within the next year.

The main reason we came to this small but booming city was Angkor; a city hidden and forgotten in the jungle, re-discovered by Henri mouhot a French naturalist and adventurer in the middle of the 19th century.
The temples were truly magnificant but we'll let our pictures tell the story. 3 days of tomb raiding, and we were templed out!

Bill took us to the Cambodian Association for the poor, a school where we taught English for a few days a week, he also showed us the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Theresa) orphanage where we often visited and played with the kids. We soon became "locals" when locals started to recognise us, and the prices of groceries dropped. Shakirah aka DJ Brown Suga also managed to hook herself up with a daily slot at Love fm, the local english speaking radio station.

Our favourite hangouts where we became regulars were:
- Breakfast at the BOOM BOOM ROOM- a mix of cool clothes, splendid coffee and a splash of good music.
- Evening drinks at the Laundry bar; a funky place, with the most stupid deal in history... First drink free from 6-9pm. For two weeks we never ordered a second. How's that for a quick spin?!!!

Dengue fever is a big problem in Cambodia and the hospitals are in desperate need for blood, so we decided to give some of ours. Unfortunately Shakirah had low iron levels, so they couldn't accept her blood, but instead prescribed her with 30 days of iron tablets. Fortunately I was able to give blood and got a t-shirt and candy for my efforts.


All in all we had a fulfilling time in Siem reap, this is definitely one of our favourite stops and we would both be back in a flash.

rah man that tomb raiding looked quite scarey gal! i guess your the black lara croft eh?! lol. anyway babe it looks like you continue to have loadsa fun! even tho that was in aug 05 and now its jan 2006! god knows what you've been up to since aug!! keep up more posted young lady. give love to the mr. peace out, love fam. x
