Can you believe it? What a trip. After 11 hours flying we arrived in Frankfurt pooped and happy to have made it. We and our group of 11 people thought it'd be fun to spend our 13 hour layover, yes that's 13 hours, seeing a bit of downtown Frankfurt. We gathered ourselves together and hiked through the terminal looking for info on what to see and how to see it. After learning that all the information was located outside the terminal we trooped though customs down to the money changer looking for Euros. Fortunately, before plunking down our dollars, we discovered that it would cost us about $50/person to spend less than 13 hours in Frankfurt. We thought our money would be better spent at our destination Jerusalem. And I think, really, we were all too tired to have enjoyed it much.

So we trooped back through security etc. and headed to our gate. I'm sure the German security and customs folks thought nothing more than that we were just another bunch of crazy Americans. But we can say we've been to Germany ~ we've got entry and exit stamps to prove it!

We slumped our way through various positions of "comfort" in the airport seats ~ which actually felt good compared to the airplane ~ and sampled the good German brew and fast food airport sandwiches. Thankfully the time passed, the more time that passed the slower it got, but pass it did. When we boarded the plane to Israel our bodies were already past time for being there.

We took a sh'root taxi to the house where we were staying, where after dropping us off the driver "suggested" a tip of 20 shekels by snatching them out our our fists ~ those tight Americans (said in a Middle Eastern accent)...

After a little confusion about where we were sleeping, we took a taxi to a B&B ~ this driver was very nice. If I knew who he was I'd call him for all our taxi needs.

Our first experience here has been shower, sleep and dinner. Meeting up with a new friend Bridgett, who lives here, we had dinner just down the street ~ I love that we can walk everywhere, dinner, Old City, very cool. Lots of interesting food and salads, all yummy.

Right now, I'm sitting in the sitting room of our lovely little B&B in the German Colony of Jerusalem called Bet Norvegia, Norwegian House, with our friends from Port Angeles, Rob, Susie and Mitchel Knudson, and two friends from Vancouver, Neil and Don. We're having tea, macaroons and great fellowship. What fun to travel with friends.

This is a very busy city. Everyone here drives like they live in Rome, zooming around, taking advantage of sidewalks to get around trucks, horns blaring. I've heard there's no road rage as they all take in out on their horns...

Tomorrow we move to the Mt. Zion Hotel where we start our tour. I love it here! Until next time...

This house is next door to our B&B. Everything is built of the beautiful Jerusalem stone. The German Colony is one of the premier neighborhoods in Jerusalem.
