New City Living Tips: Find public showers, libraries, and fruit trees if you can. Free is good.

Greetings and salutations friends and family!

After a long and somewhat goofy, funny, silly, tear inspiring, stressful, glorious, tiring journey across the country, we are safely and semi-comfortably living in our new apartment with two great housemates in Valley Village, which is a part of West Hollywood, California. My apologies on the scare inspiring delay... life got busy once we spent that weird, treacherous first night in L.A.

After that night, we realized how badly we needed to find a NICE place to live. Luckily none of the subsequent nights were spent in the first hell hole (THANKS AGAIN DAVE!) We hit up the local library, a good place to find free internet and resources about the new city. After a few days and a shower in public in Santa Monica, we found our new home. We looked at three or four places in different cities and the one we're in now was surprisingly not our first choice. We were deciding between three places, but, after some mysterious price raising, we decided to go with a place that was equally expensive but bigger. I later found out that the price was raising because the tenant we were looking to rent with in the first place "liked me" and thought I was "pretty;" he promptly asked me out on a date and I, in turn, promptly turned him down.

Our home is actually quite nice. It's a condo about 5 minutes outside of Hollywood and Studio City. The neighborhood is nice and safe! Our housemates are very cool; one is a writer and caterer and the other does payroll for the show life. Both, just like everyone else here, want to be more involved in the entertainment industry.

Both Dustin and I found jobs within the first week of moving here... that we hate. I am currently doing some receptionist work for the most unorganized and confusing Vietnamese nail salon in Sherman Oaks. Dustin is assisting a wardrobist that apparently hasn't had the money to pay the 600 he owes him (no worries, we will see that soon.) We're both currently looking for new jobs; craigslist has posed many opportunities but has produced no responses... loath the waiting game.

On the bright side of LA (which truly is every part of the city,) I have just found a talent agency that I'm hoping to start doing some commercials through. I'm scheduled to get some headshots done this week and then hopefully, I'll finally begin my acting career. A moment ago, after finishing off a new episode of Californication (HBO - think ode to life in LA) with my roommate, he told me to slow down; we just got to the city and I am in such a rush to be where I want to be. We have a show booked for Friday at the Pig and Whistle... kind of exciting but I'm not sure if there will be anyone there! Wish us luck!

One thing I love about this city: there's free fruit everywhere! We have had a months supply of oranges from a tree five minutes from us and they're the sweetest I've ever had. We've spent the last few weeks finding these trees; so far we found a persimmon, lemons, limes, grapefruit, cactus pears, and oranges. Awesome. Also, since our housemate is a caterer, he brings extra food home all the time, and that my friends, is pretty cool.

You'll hear from us again soon. I miss Ohio dearly, even when it's F*cking Freezing... because you all are there.

You Two Cuties
Hey you two crazies, What an adventure you are having. I can't believe you have done it; moved to the other end of the country to seek fame and fortune. How exciting. Your blog is so funny. I can't believe you get yourselves into such crazy situations, though I know when you're on the road you do things you'd never do at home (though that doesn't apply to you two cos you're just plain crazy in Oxford as well). I can't believe you actually pull into hotels and eat their brekky spread before they notice. I can't remember staying in one of those unfashionable joints without an evil eye watching that we didn't steal an extra bread roll (which we did, after filling it with egg!). How the hell did you find that little national loophole. Anyway, pleased as punch that you arrived in two pieces and are already working crap jobs to fuel your artistic dreams. I've got a friend or two in Lala land do look out for Aussie and mention my name. They'll be the ones next to you in both the crap jobs and audition lines. Go hard, but don't go home. Love ya Dav.
