Last full day in Florence and I think the lack of germ-killing alcohol let the cold creep back. The worst night of sleep I've had since I got here, a bad headache, and a non-stop nasal exodus. A "wasted day", another free walking tour, some good gelato, and a pretty good calzone (prosciutto, funghi, uovo). Gonna stay in tonight, and get some laudry done. Should be the last time I have to pay for laundry this trip (thankfully! 20 francs in Zurich!!! = just under $20usd).

I've learned the secret of adding an egg to the center of your pizza and will subsequently be experimenting once i get back. I already have an idea for a "carbonara" pizza using a cream sauce (probably just alfredo), bacon, chicken, and just adding the egg to the center. Just another reason I can't wait to get home, so I can get back in the kitchen and start cooking again.

The atmosphere here never grabbed me, maybe I should have come here before Rome. I am glad I did decide to come here though, because I was able to get in to see Michelangelo's David. Unfortunately, the security there were a lot better at their jobs and I wasn't able to sneak any photos. I actually saw one of the female guards knock away a camera from a lady as she was about to snap a picture. She was so surprised the camera came out of her hands, saved only by the wrist strap. The David wasn't a disappointment like the rest of the city. It would have been nice to have seen Bernini's version at the Burghese in Rome, but I didn't make an appointment and wasn't able to get in. I had planned to get into the Uffizi today, but instead went back to the hostel and slept.

Praying Venice hits me like a ton of ancient bricks. From what I've been told, it´s very likely.
