VICTORY ACCOMPLISHED!!!! i was able to light the gas stove, by myself, lol. yes i know, kinda pathetic, o well. anyhoo so i have been one my own for almost a week and i have survived 😊 that, i am glad to report. anyhoo, well let me start with last weekend. i went to Sergeev Posad last weekend. it is located about 60 km away from the center of moscow. kevin, tinian and i took the elektrichka(train) and it was really fun. i was proud that i actually left the city and explored on my own. in sergeev posad is a monastary from the days of ivan terrible, it used to be the head of the RUssian Orthodox church but now its in another monastary. anyways, St. Sergius Radonetrz is buried there so i was able to venerate his remains. it was nice to be in a religious center where all people understand Orthodoxy. its not like america where ppl assume im Jewish since im not Catholic. NOt that there is anythign wrong with being Jewish (direct from seinfeld, haha).
anywyas, so that was really nice. for some reason my mind is going blank, i know a lot has happened but i cant remember anything. ooops im sorry.
anyhoo what else, school is alright, i got 3, the equivalent of a C in my grammar class, i felt stupid, but i think im getting a little better. when there is someone constantly telling u that u are doing everything wrong, it starts to sink in your head and somethign starts to seep into that little head of mine. who knows, by the time i come home maybe i will be at highschool level russian.
we have been reading a lot of contemporary literature with my awesome teacher. well, here contemporary is anything between Pushkin and now and what we have been reading is from 40's and 50's. but they are actually pretty funny satires and i am proud of myself that i can actually read them and understand the jokes! i was gonna write how he always blinks/winks at us, but in a non-creepy way, but i think i wrote about already.

what else, we have 10 day vacation coming up in october, so that should be exciting, i think im going to sweden, finland, and estonia

shot shot.

anyhoo, i forgot to write about the weather! remember how i wrote a few weeks ago that i was sitting in a pool of my own sweat, well now im freezing my butt off everyday. might i add, it is september! how am i gonna last until november. hopefully by then the government will turn the heating on. yes u read correctly, the government controls when your house gets heated. its all the central planning from the soviet union. i complain, but this is reality for A LOT of people. and i complain, but those people get by and so am i. i sleep with 3 blankets, wool long johns, wool socks, t-shirt and a wool sweater. my apartment is older so it has older windows, that pretty much serve no purpose in terms of keeping the place warm, but thats ok. im surviving. and i drink a lot of tea to keep warm. i can only hope that there is a small indian summer. because i still havent had a chance to go swimming in the moscow river (or at least the canal by my house).

um, ok what else, classes are slowly going by and i hope that i do better. anyhoo, more later. i want to post my pics but its not working. ill try next time tootles! miss you all and i love u all! xoxo
love, alia

Hi Alia
Alia...whatever you do....DO NOT go swimming in in Moskva river or any canal that is tied to the river. Even if you see people doing it. It is one of those bodies of water that microscopic things creep up your nose and later on grow and give you illnesses. I mean they even have mutated fishies swimming around with 2 heads in Moskva reka. Just my little recommendation-the locals told me when i lived there... Of course...by now I don't think it will get any warmer anyway...Hang in there. and don't freeze!
