Balboa Park is an amazing place. Near downtown, it is a huge green space dotted with at least twenty museums. We could never have seen all the different exhibits if we'd spent a week there. All the buildings had a very European feel with tiled mosaics and orante balconies. We did make it to the San Diego Museum of Art where we saw an exhibit of Georgia O'Keef's work and Eleanor Antin. The Antin works were really interesting. She photographs actors recreating ancient scenes and paintings. Really wild...check it out at San Diego Art Musuem's website . We also visited the Museum of Man where we got in touch with our evolutionary ancestors and the Japanese Friendship Garden. At the Science Musuem we viewed our obligatory IMax movie (every vacation we seem to find one) that Rich was really excited about (as usual) and then almost feel asleep in (yep). The movie was about Sea Monsters which was very cool.

In the evening, we went to the horse races at Del Mar race track. It was so much fun...and we didn't even lose that much money. There were eight races and we came out ahead in three. Winning ponies included: Honor Among Friends, Fast Car to Freedom, and Smudgeledo.

In a heart breaking photo finish Valiant Effort let us down. We were crushed.

After the races, the track was having a Friday night special event, a concert by Frank Black, best know to us as formerly of the Pixies. Even though he was way too proud to play a single Pixies' song, we still had a great time. Rich snaged a Jack Daniels' t-shirt thrown into the crowd by the Jack Daniels' girls and I think I am going to make him wear it around LA today...
