Katelyns Birthday
We all sang Happy birthday to her at the airport but couldnt light the candles!!!!!! The Stop over....DUBAI
Well 16th August was finally here....years of planning were about to be put to the sword
First up....Katelyns Birthday.....we had a cake and...well No candles.......Ok we had candles but didnt think it was appropriate to light them in the airport.....
After embarrasing Katelyn in public......we said good by and with tears in eyes began the odesy!
The flight was great...hardly felt the first landing in Singapore.... the kids were Good, Katelyn was a bit unwell......the Food was OK on the plane.....heaps of it. The service was a bit less than I expected. Tried to watch 2 movies one had an end with pic and sound like an old worn out VHS tape and the other had audio so low that i couldnt hear....Both attempts to get them fixed by the hostess failed!
The games were OK. we were able to play each other which was good.
Arrived at Dubai at 5:00am and it was hot!......Broke into a sweat from the Airport to the taxi abou 30m away...I guess I had the heavy
We’re having an amazing time in Dubai. I wish we’d come to Dubai last on our
Farewell Party
Nice to have people wave you goodbye!!! way home, instead of it being our first stop over.
The shopping is fantastic!!! Dad and Joshua are bored out of their minds while the rest of us are wishing we’d come with empty suitcases!! For every $1 Dubai we actually pay 0.33cents AUS. So every looks so cheap and there are sales everywhere!!!!!
The weather is something else. Max 45 and Min 35 today.....it was 35 at 5am!! Everything is so heavily air conditioned that you feel a little cold. But when you step outside, it’s so damn hot. The air conditioners DO NOT go off… ever!!!
Marias glasses fogged up when we stepped out of a taxi.
When we arrived yesterday (Sunday), We spent time at a shopping center called Bur Jurman. It was a short walf from our hotel. We got here at about 6 am. After checking in we discovered a supermarket across the road......only to find it was not open until 8:00am......so we waited. ............
We went to the supermarket...it was like walking into a coles supermarket...almost no differrent. Produce was labeled with place of origin....they had fruit from all over the world at prices similar to Australia. We picked up roast
Entertaiinment
Keeping the kids entertained for over 14 hrs was tought at times...thank god for the games onboard!... chickens for about $3 AUD each!!!. We wnet to the shopping center after that to find it was closed....It was only 9:30...they opened at 10:00 on sundays!
It was too hot to stay out so we came back and had unch. We headed back later in the day when we were amazed at all the amazing name brands housed in this shopping center. The place was amazing!....So much wealth. We got back home and then took the kids for a swim. The water was nice and warm. We were all so tired, but we tried to stay awake and managed to have dinner at 5pm....11pm your time. We were all in bed by 6.00pm!!! The kids asked to go to bed and were so grateful when we let them go to bed early. I think the weather made us feel worse. Joshua was hysterically funny because as he went to bed, he couldn’t understand why he was so tired and eager to go to bed while it was daylight. He was so grateful we’d let him go to bed so early.
Today we all woke up anywhere from 4 to 5am and ready for action!! ...about 11am In
On Board with food
There was heaps of food on the plane....Katelyn couldnt eat all...And Neither could Josh!!! Australia. We caught a local bus to the Mall of Emirates ( a massive shopping centre) which has an indoor Snow Slope attached. If was amazing watching Muslim women all covered up, wearing snow jackets and people skiing down man made slopes. There was even ski lifts.. There were amazing food court and the prices great.
As we were on the bus, i realised we were heading in the wrong direction, so we got off and caught a Taxi. The bus trip was great because Dubai is in a state of constant construction. There are so many building all going up. Everywhere you look there are unfinished building.
We decided to have lunch,,,,Options were endless....all fast food outlets we have in australia....Including burger King, Mac Donalds, KFC, Pizza Hut and Joshua was very excited at the food court because KFC had a kids meal and the toy was a P.C game for the
computer “Pac Man”. It was amazing they were giving away a computer game with every kids meal!!! He decided not to have it, because we have so many games on the computer and a kids meal would never fill him up. I’m really glad because
there was such a variety of food, I would have been so disappointed if he’d chosen any of the fast food, .like Pizza Hut, Mc Donalds or Burger King.
This mall was even more beautiful that the Bur Jurman!.....It had an amazing amount of name brands from all over the world....many recognised from Australia like Athletes Foot...and others I cant really care to remember.
There was one of those French Super markets (Hypermart) that was like having a Coles and BigW in the same floorspace. It had 50 cash registers and had a checkout person and someone to pack your goods.
We went past the 7 star hotel Bur Al Arab....and got home very tired.
I went past the supemarket and made Chicken Tikka for dinner.........Got to get those curries in before We get to Europe!
Kids are now in bed and we prepare for tomorrow!..... Will update when we get a chance. and use spell Check!
