Woke up yesterday, packed my things and headed to the airport. The flight to Christchurch was short and would have been quite satisfactory if the man next to me hadn't been so trigger-happy with his cologne. Sarah met me at the airport, it was absolutely insane to see her after 8 months. Now it's already like she was never gone! That's the great thing about best friends I guess, you can always pick up at exactly the same place.

She took me around Christchurch on the free shuttle and showed me the main points around the city centre. The metro system seems to be very efficient, when I figure it out it'll be great! I was forced to eat a mince pie, as it was explained to me as a cheap and yummy food staple. It was interesting to eat a mini meat pie straight out of the packaging, though the art of not getting it all over it something I'll have to work on. We went to her work, the supermarket in the city, which conveniently sells all sorts of liquor, which we don't in Canada. We bought a bottle of sparkling berry wine for $5 to celebrate my arrival.

Upon meeting some of her friends it was clear that of the two of us, I have a much more Canadian accent which actually made both Sarah and I proud for different reasons. I've realized how much I actually use the word eh.

Slept on her floor last night, which wasn't too bad considering how much she warned me about the lack of heating in homes in NZ, but maybe the sleeping bag was just really warm. As Sarah is at work today, I'm going to brave the metro alone and find the library to print off some resumes to start job-hunting. I just have to remember to wait for the bus on the other side of the road!!

grocery store vino
Hey Kat! I know you're a true BCer and as such you may not know that Quebeckers are among the privileged ones with wine and booze sold at the local corner stores and grocery stores! That's what you get from the French, along with a drinking age of 18. Glad you're having such fun, say HI to Sarah from me and good luck job hunting!
