Jereme was at the airport welcoming us to Australia. It had been four years since we were here the last time and it felt as if we were coming back home. Three months in Nepal and India was enough and we were glad to have a break from third world countries before continuing to South-America.
We stayed in Coogee with Jereme and his flat mates. Coogee is a nice beach place, quite touristy but less than Bondi and only 20 minutes from the city. The first couple of days we tried to work out the situation with our broken digital camera, trying to get it fixed but ended up buying a new one. Sami got a new toy and hopefully the pictures in the blog will improve.
Just a couple of weeks before coming to Sydney we found out that Foo Fighters have a gig in Sydney while we are there and we were lucky enough to get the tickets. On Friday night we traveled to the Sydney Superdome in the Olympic Park and on the way it started to rain cats and dogs. By the time we got inside the dome we were soaked. And so was everybody
else but that didn't spoil the atmosphere. The gig was excellent and for an hour and 45 minutes they played their best songs from all of the albums. In the end of the gig Dave announced that the bass player Nate had his birthday and the audience sang happy birthday for him. Then they closed the set with energetic One by One. In the next morning we found out that the storm had been quite rough and three people had died in Sydney because of it.
We spent the weekend with Jereme, Blanka and Aaron. We drove around Sydney visiting beaches and many other nice places and had barbeque. We had good time and enjoyed the company. Six days in Sydney passed by quickly. It still is one of our favorite cities. It is big but doesn't feel like it, the parks make it green and beautiful and the sea is present everywhere. It would have been nice to stay for longer but our onward flights were already booked. So we continued to Cairns, reading 'In a Sunburned Country' by Bill Bryson. A great book about traveling in Australia, thanks Aaron.
