Mountains in the cloud
My view from the plane was well mad, this pic doesn't do it justice though really. Right then, I'm finally on me way at last and have arrived safe and sound. Plane trip over was well cushtie coz the two people next to me didn't turn up so had a full 3 seats to lie across. watched war of the Worlds which was a lot better than I expected considering I fooking hate Tom Cruise! lol When we were getting towards Hong Kong you could see all the mountain peaks poking through the clouds, it looked mint! I took some pics but they don't do it justice really.
My flight was actually cancelled because of the snow so I ended up landing in Hong Kong about 3 hours later than expected but I managed to get to the hotel fine so it was OK. The Concourse Hotel I was in the first 2 nights was well nice, it was about 3 miles from the decent bars though so once I checked out I got myself to a hostel in Chungking Mansion near the harbour and it's been a lot easier since then. Not a bad place actually, Paris Guesthouse I think it is and only a tenner a night so I'm happy.
Met a couple of girls
Me in the bay
See, the smog's a bit much innit?! from Bristol about 3 days ago and been knocking about with them ever since, they left at dinnertime today though and I went on a bender last night and didn't get in till 7am so I missed them to say bye unfortunately. Met a kiwi lad called Jamie the first day I was here and all so been for a few drinks with him since I've been here. He was steaming last night and could hardly even stand up but he went and got his guitar, sat down in the bar we were in and knocked a few tunes out and that absolutely perfectly, it was mad! Talented bloke I tell ya!!!
I went across the harbour on the boat the 3rd day I was here to see the central business district, that was pretty mad. The first thing you notice about Hong Kong is the fact that it's so tall, every building is fooking huge! The bay looks stunning at night with the lights on, shame the city is so smoggy though as that ruins it a bit in the day. I went up the Bank of China building when I was over there (the big glass one with
the corners cut off), but when I got to the floor where you can look out from (43rd), it was shut for repairs and stuff - I was well gutted! Been up it still anyway so never mind. I went over to the zoological gardens from there and had a look at the monkeys and stuff so that wasn't bad, it was free and all so double bonus.
Getting the ferry back to Central was when I met an older couple from Jersey who were having 3 days here as part of their trip round Asia so went for a beer with them and met Carly and Hayley from Bristol in the bar so that was cushtie. Murphy's Irish bar is my temporary local for now, it's alright in there (I'm such a f*cking Westerner! lol). Them 2 were on about going to the Tian Tan Buddha statue the next day so we arranged it so we could meet and go together on the MTR (Subway in HK) and since we were in the same hostel block it all worked out OK.
They call this the big Buddha (technically the biggest seated Buddha statue in the world), and you see
Mint building!
can't remember what company own it but it looks ace dunnit?! why as soon as you get there; it's fooking huge! It was a bit daunting walking up the steps to it with him peering down on you like that but definitely glad I went coz it was an experience. The monastry was really nice too plus you got a drink and some food for free at the end of it too which was a bit bizarre considering it was only 2 quid to get in! The trip there was a bit messy as we got the wrong bus and ended up in the wrong town but a taxi driver got us there eventually so it was all good. The MTR trip back was a bit claustrophobic as the train is about 4-500 metres long with absolutely no spaces on it anywhere in rush hour but we got through it.
That night I went on the piss and ended up eating pidgeon with this other lad I met, I'll show you the pic when I mange to upload the thing too - well mad!
The only things that have pissed me off to date are the people constantly trying to sell me suits (I'm a backpacker for f*cks sake!), and the
Anyone for a Gaylord?
Of all the names to call your curry house - what were they thinking! Had to put this on coz it made me piss myself! shocking price of beer ($44 HK for a pint of Fosters is just under 4 quid :o( ) but I still managed to get quite a few down me since I've been here. lol
I'd write loads more but I'm boring myself here and I've been sat in this cafe for over 2 hours now and me back's wrecking so I'm gonna do one, I'll add some pics when I get chance yeah? If you've got the link for this and don't wanna be on the mailing list then let me know but I just pasted in all my contacts coz I was being lazy.
Add some comments at the bottom if you can and all coz it'd be nice to hear from people back home when possible? Catch ya's all soon yeah... ;o)
