Now we are heading west to see the
"Golden Gate Bridge".
We'd decided to stay outside of the city.
Thereby giving us the freedom to do other things, besides wandering the streets of San Fancisco.
We stayed in the Silicon Valley
(nothing to do with plastic surgery.) just outside San Jose.
At "The Microtel" in Morgan Hill and it suited our needs very well.
From there, it was just over an hours drive to the city to see the Golden Gate Bridge.
Here are a few facts you may not know about the Golden Gate Bridge.... 1. The term Golden Gate refers to the Golden Gate Strait, which is the entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean
2. As part of the 50th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1987, a walkway comprised of personalized bricks was constructed at the southeast side of the Bridge in the visitor area, just north of the Strauss Statue.
The brick program was implemented in March 1988 and 7,416 bricks were sold. $35 for a basic brick
3. During construction a safety net was suspended under the floor of the
Bridge from end to end. This net saved the lives of 19 men who then became known as the "Half-Way-to-Hell Club."
We were really disappointed that we couldn't book a tour to
"Alcatraz".
(One of our must do's) They were booked up solid for 5 days and we couldn't hang around that long.
We had loads more, yet to do!!! But we could see the island from the bridge.
So take note, it's best to book in advance.....
