Biking in Austria
Look out Sarah, Odin and Christine . . . we are in training in Europe. Guten tag! We arrived in Austria on Monday after a busy day of travel. We had breakfast in Paris, France and lunch in Munich, Germany and we ended the day with supper in Salzburg, Austria. The Austrian food we had was very hearty and delicious, and fun to try and pronounce. Schweinsbraten (Pork and dumplings) for SJ and a solid weinerschnitzl for Andy (deep fried pork)!!
Salzburg is a very small city compared to where we have been and it seems very calm and not busy. Yesterday we explored the city, which included finding the pretzel stand that sold huge doughy pretzels bigger than our heads with different toppings. We tried a few!! We also saw the oldest, most preserved castle in Europe. We noticed that people here seem to ride their bikes everywhere and there are lots of trails so we decided that was a good idea and rented bikes and hit the road. We went on a nice bike ride around the city and to the outskirts of the city where we biked through some nice countryside. We found that the hills really were alive with the sound of music!
At night we went to this musical
performance where they played piano and classics from the Sound of Music and Mozart. This seemed like the thing to do in Salzburg as they are known for musical wonders. We enjoyed the show, especially when Andy got picked from the crowd to go on stage and dance with them!!
It was a nice and relaxing 2 days in Austria, but now we are off to enjoy the Bavarian Alps in Germany.
Auf Wiedersehen!!!!!
FYI... the longest German word we have seen in print here is 23 letters long! Altertumswissenshcaften.... not sure what that means, but we saw it on a sign!
