i woke up this morning afer my first restful night and following on from yesterday's mad jaunt around the city's tourist sites i decided i would take it easy today.

just to put you in the picture i visited wat po and the famous reclining buddha (i promise to post the pictures, i really do)yesterday. oh and then i went to the royal palace next door to see the emerald buddha. so not worth a visit. the buddha is not even made of emeralds but jade and holds a prominent position high above a stack of gold leaf miniature buddhas and an assortment of gold leaf relics. and it's absolutely tiny. you're not supposed to take a picture but i managed to get a sneaky one.
Wat po on the other hand is an absolute delight. contained within a series of leafy courtyards it's an absolute joy to wander around and so very peaceful.

The sun was absolutely unrelenting yesterday. sweat was pouring out of every pore and i was so very tired that i looked such a mess and was fit to collapse by the end of the day but i soldiered on, even managing to walk back to the hostel, which while it isn't very far the heat makes it feel so. im baffled as to how so many girls in this city manage to look so fresh faced as if they've just stepped out of a boudoir!

Anyway, that aside i have good news. i will be finally leaving bangkok! Taking the bus to Kanchanaburi early tomorrow afternoon. i actually did a test run to the southern bus station just to get my bearings and so glad that i did. in fact i went on the local buses which can be quite daunting but so worth a try. thai people are so friendly there is absolutley no need for concern. it's a bit weird because while the tuk tuk drivers and vendors are out to make a quick buck from you the others are not. i also visited chatachuk market. wonderful place. everyone coming to thailand should make it their last port of call on their way home because there is so much to buy.

i have decided to be a little brave tomorrow or some would say stupid by not booking a guest housel in advance. i just wanna see how it goes. the journey to kanchanaburi is only 2 hours away so i should have plenty of energy to search for a guesthouse and if it all goes terribly wrong it will be a lesson learned.

Not sure where to after that. maybe mae hon song or even chiang mai. it will all depend on whether there is a direct train/bus to the next destination. in retrospect i should have done a day trip to kanchanaburi and then taken the overnight train to chiang mai. nay mind...i am reassured by the very salient fact that wherever i am i will always have a place to lay my head and i did want an adventure after all.

wish me luck xx
