I sit here in an internet shop surrounded by 10 different computers playing different music to go along with the various "Dance Dance Revolution" computer games being played. These men are getting so into it-- their hitting of the keyboard to make their different dance moves is somehow louder than the music beat. Anyways- onto the update 😊
We spent the last day in Krabi relaxing as our arms were still sore from the rock climbing experience. (Talk about a sport where one must really use their mental capability to overcome physical failure!) We spent the day browsing an English speaking book store on Railay West, eating the local cusine in Tonsai Bay and avoiding more rain. We also spent time figuring out how to get to our next stop. Bus or flight? Adam had to do some convincing the bus was a good option as I am much more into the comfort of flying. In his mind it was an experience we musn't do without... Alas the better price of the bus couldn't have been beaten and we decided we would head to Krabi Town the next morning to get our ticket. (We heard this was the better option
Haircut
exciting picture, yes. than buying it near the resorts in Railay.)
Travelling to Bangkok:
We woke up early enough to catch a 9am longtail boat from Railay East to Krabi Town and arrived an hour later- again soaked form the spray from the front of the boat! I guess it didn't really matter b/c more rain was on the way. While in Krabi town we found a cute coffee shop/ restaurant to sit and relax. I had the BEST chicen stay sandwich on Ciabatta bread- a taste of something more western and Panera- esqe 😊 This restaurant had really cheap dishes and was a steal price wise- would highly recommend it for an afternoon reading on a lovely patio watching the tuk tuks pass by. We explored a bit of the town and Adam was able to find a place to get his haircut by two Thai women- kind of funny b/s I think we were in a women's salon and I am not sure if they knew how to cut men's hair all that well.
We made it to the bus station- with the unfortunate higher price. A bit frustrated we headed onto the bus for the 13 hour
Our lovely bus
If you look closely maybe you'll see the great movie in the background ride up to Bangkok. This bus was quite the experience- I had the joy of watching the horror movie "Chucky" dubbed into Thai- who wouldn't want to spend their time listening to that? We made it to Bangkok around 4 in the morning and of course didn't know which bus station to get of at- naturally we waited to the last one (Central Bangkok Station as I now know) which worked out just fine as there were a plethora of taxi's waiting. We were quite excited to head to the Hilton Millennium Hotel which we were able to stay at b/c of my Dad's hotel points- (thank you Dad- we finally have hot shower!!) They were very welcoming even with our 5am check in time and had a room ready for us at 8am even though the official check in time isn't until at least 2pm. We spent the rest of the morning enjoying the luxurious room and catching up on sleep the bus didn't allow us to get.
1st day exploring:
We talked with the concierge whom was very helpful and after we had a handle on the must sees of the city we headed out to
Jim Thompson's home. We took our free ferry to to the nearest tram station and ventured on to see the home of the man who revived the silk industry in Thailand. His home was very traditional and had many antiques dating back to the 9th century from all over the world. Adam proclaimed after our tour thank goodness we were not in Europe right now- that was enough artifacts and touring for him... On our way home I fell upon these huge photos in a chic art form and bought a few that I may need to ship back home- really happy about the purchase though- first souvenir!
The rest of the evening was wonderful- we splurged (Our drinks totaled our past three night's stay in Railay!)and went up to the top floor lounge bar at our hotel with a 360 degree view of the city. We then ventured onto the Night Bazzar in they city. The bazzar was filled with cheap local food, beer, shopping and live entertainment. One thing about SE Asia I will miss the most are they open air markets.
Off to explore wats, palaces and the famous Koh San Road,
Christine

Khao San Road
You guys are going to have a great time on Khao San Road! Make sure you get there at night -- that's when the really great people come out. Also, you're fancy hotel might not tell you this, but I firmly believe that the best way to experience Bangkok is in the back of a Tuk-Tuk. Cheap, fast, easily maneuvered through traffic -- I won't guarantee your safety but you'll have a damn good time!
