Magical MoscowMagical MoscowMagical Moscow

St. Basil's at night
Hi All, Moscow, What a town, it is so much more than we were expecting and told to expect, by jealous St. Petersburgers. St. Petersburg is beautiful, of that there is no doubt, but it is very uniform, the buildings look stunning but the same, the streets are straight, in a grid pattern and boring, God forbid there might be a bend. Moscow is just as beautiful, but much more quirky, interesting and not afraid to be different, just look at the triangular Kremlin, the glory that is St. Basils Catherdral, the sparkling metro stations and many other odd but beautiful buildings. I just don't have enough time to go into more detail at the moment. The city is very modern, Maeve was dissappointed by how nice and friendly the Kremlin looked and felt, she was expecting it to feel much more intimidating and frightening and so was unimpressed with its niceness. When we were in the Kremlin, I noticed we were being followed by a group of girls, I thought they might be lining up to rob a few wallets or something they were acting very suspicious. Eventually one of them plucked up the nerve to ask where we were

Our Legion of Female Fans, Where's Maeve????
from. The poor girl nearly fainted when we said Ireland and Australia, She had never heard people speaking English before and was dying to practice hers on us. All of her class gathered round and then were we taken outside lined up against a wall and in true 'Kremlin' style photographed with each and every class mate and teacher, the girls giggling and blushing, you'd swear we were Boyzone or something. Maeve stayed out of the pictures, they didn't seem nearly as interesed in her for some reason, but she didn't mind she was having a great time having a laugh at us and our new found legion of female fans.
We're hopping on the Trans Mongolian Express later tonight and unfortunately are going to miss the Russia v. Spain Semi-final. It really feels like the Charlton years in Russia at the moment, it's like they've just discovered they have a fooball team and everybody is starting to watch the football matches and I think they'll be really dissapointed to lose. Anyway the craic will be great in the pubs but unfortunately we'll be trundling Eastwards for 3 and a half days solid towards Irkutsk.
Glad to hear its typical miserable Summer weather at home, It's a bit cooler here about 18 -21 but generally sunny and warm, no rain.
