Nazca lines mystery...for the gods or for the aliens?

This morning I woke up feeling much, much better and ready to see the Nazca lines. I was in a small group with a Columbian fellow and a guy from Switzerland. Very nice guys. We were picked up at 9am and taken to a teeny tiny airport where we watched a film about the Nazca lines and basically waited for a couple hours for some fog to clear. At 12pm we were able to board our little cesna airplane and take off to view the lines. The lines were carved into the dessert floor by the Nazca people in approx. 500 A.D. There are many theories as to why and how they were carved, but the reality is that no one really knows. The locals of the area had always noticed these lines in the desert, but from the ground they had no idea what they were. It was not until man invented the airplane that they noticed that many of the lines are actually in the shapes of people or animals. Because this area gets only approx. 10 minutes of rainfall per year and the desert has almost no wind, these geoglyphs have survived. This was AMAZING! Our cesna pilot was fantastic and his landing was great considering it was quite windy at the airport. The Columbian fellow was looking more than a little green after this trip though.

Apparently this kind of spider is not even found in this area...it is a species from the amazon which is extremely far away.
