Instead of full fledged stories in this entry, you will get two lists that reflect my first full week in Tanzania.

Things I Miss about the US
10. The ability to eat any food anywhere I go
9. Not completely standing out (wazungu wanaondoka!)
8. Feeling safe in a motor vehicle
7. Paved roads
6. Not sleeping under a net
5. Reliable electricity
4. Knowing world news as it happens
3. Not feeling clean at mid-day
2. Hot showers
1. Running water

Things I Love about Tanzania
10. Exploring the city and hoping the neighborhood is safe
9. Ridiculously cheap texting (4.5 cents to other Tanzanians, 8 cents international)
8. Unpredictability of animals
7. Not knowing what the food I order actually is
6. Sunny and warm weather
5. Price of meals (usually $0.60-$0.80)
4. Kusema Kiswahili
3. Let-life-roll-by atmosphere
2. Daladala rides
1. Friendliness of everyone

Despite the no story promise, I do want to say that I went to Bongoyo Island today. We took a ferry from the mainland over and stayed on the beach for several hours, eating lunch there and then walking down a path that took us 2/3 of the way across the island. It was one of the most serene places until the Princeton kids showed up (well, they weren't that bad). Anyway, I had a lot of fun and if you ever come to Tanzania, you should check it out.

so I pretty much expected the results of these two lists...and I hope that you're truly enjoying your time in Tanzania...work is going well, I love my job, I just hate the commute...and the summer programme students have arrived and announce their presence constantly--I mean, who locks their bedroom door every time they go down the hall to the bathroom ? yeah so I kinda am not liking them a whole lot right now...but work is good...and I'm currently out of the red, which is good...Missing Rachel though...she left last Monday...
