Map of China
We are in Guangdong Province. The southern most province (except for Hainan). We call it the "Mississippi" of China. We have heard from so many friends this week after the China Earthquake that we at least want to let people know where we are and that we are safe in southern China. We have been here nearly 2 years and enjoyed this adventure even more than we expected. Even though Shunde is a city of over 1 million people Google hasn't even added it to their map. Shunde is located just a 1 hour drive south of Guangzhou which is a major city of 8 million people and is just 2 hours northwest from Hong Kong. It is an easy 2 hour ferry ride from Hong Kong and up the Pearl River to Shunde. See the map above for the exact location and distance from Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
The strange part is we seem to be the only 2 Americans in town. So needless to say there isn't much of an expat community. Shunde is a very prosperous area due primarily to the high level of industry including a lot of small appliance manufacturers like Media or air-conditioning manufacturers.
Here are a few photos from the very friendly people that live here. For more photos than
you probably care to see, take a look at our main site:
